Do FHP use different methods to measure speed? My V1 never went off

He didn't say criminal speeding or other things. But he mentioned 3 different speeds he tagged me on and that I'll be paying highest fine if he wrote the fasted speed on the ticket.
As a closing comment he said I didn't tailgate anyone so he gives credit for that.

I think I'm going to use a lawyer from this website. Or do you have any other recommendations for finding a lawyer?
That I don’t. Been ticket free *knock on wood* the last 7 years

It was in Riverview area. So I'm gonna have to find a lawyer in Hillsborough County.

First of all most cops don't patrol around 120 so he had to have slowly snuck up on you. So again situational awareness. You live and you learn. Also fhp LOVES pacing. I personally see it all the time since I'm on the highways all day. I deliver things to certain car shops and I've seen mph bee 3(33.8 infamous pop) in a couple fhp cars like an older Tahoe, charger and crown Vic but mostly they all use 34.7 now since they got all the new fancy chargers.

Thanks for checking my v1 settings. Yeah I noticed him chasing me even when I started getting on ramp but just didn't know it was LEO.

Did you adjust your box muting setting?

It looks as though with your out of the box muting for KA you're telling it to mute 34.7 and 35.5 frequencies, even though you also have them set to custom sweep.

It looks like you currently have it set to mute any Ka alerts that aren't 33.8. either you need to add boxes around 34.7 and 35.5 or get rid of it altogether. If you're trying to eliminate Cobra falses, set a single box below 33.700 and change it to in the box muting.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but if you're going that fast and someone is keeping up with you, assume it is an LEO until you can verify otherwise! On the way back from the Midwest Test Event I was on the US 52 bypass in W. Lafayette IN. I was using it as a detour for the gridlocked construction zone on I-65. I check my RVM, and there is a car way behind me in the left lane, maybe a half-mile or so, and I see a brief reflection from the roofline. Is that a light bar??? Instinctively I let off the throttle immediately. At one point I was cruising at about 75 MPH. The car slowly caught up to me and it turns out it was a W. Lafayette PD Charger. He pulls in behind me. After awhile he gets back in the left lane and rides in my blind spot. Did he think I was going to speed up again??? Eventually he gave up and made a U turn in the median. This was strictly a pacing situation he was NOT running radar. Never been paced by a city cop before!

He may very well have been running your plate to see if you were worthwhile to pull. Or heck maybe even flipping a coin to see, and pulling up next to you to see if you freaked out? I grew up in the Muncie area and know first hand too well that the ISP are something else.. so at least it was only a city cop!

Now that's just straight-up insulting.

I know somebody who saw a car behind him at night and thought "what are the odds that's a cop?" before accelerating to 20 over. Shortly after there was a disco party in his rear view mirror. He hired a lawyer and got it reduced to a muffler violation or something.

With that in mind, I'm always super suspicious if somebody behind me is exactly matching my speed at night. It could be somebody using me as a rabbit or it could be a cop. It's better to assume the latter until proven otherwise.

I apologize that I totally forgot about this thread because I got the result long time after I got the ticket.
Sometime in December my lawyer called me and informed that my case was dismissed without any penalty. I was at work so I couldn't ask for more details but I assumed that the officer just didn't show up at the court.
I was very lucky that I learned this lesson and I've been driving very carefully especially at night!

Sounds like he paced you if he was following you, only other thing he could have been using vascar with landmarks. Leaves alot open to guess from.

Great news!

At night especially but actual anytime somebody unidentifiable is following or keeping up with you when you are plus 8 or more over the PSL, never ever increase your speed! Slow down to PSL or 5 over and let them come to you until you have verified for sure they are not a LEO. You will still be making at PSL time plus making sure you don’t get a ticket.

Also speeding up to see if they keep up causes two possible issues if it is a LEO. The simple one is that they can now Pace you at a higher speed increasing ones ticket problem or worse like my cousin Roger, the LEO thought he was running and called for backup plus used the speeding up as probable cause for a search warrant. Three patrol cars pulled him over, then 30 minutes later when the SW showed up with the fourth LEO, they proceeded to tear his car apart. Two hours later they left and you guessed it, didn’t help him put one single thing back in his vehicle!

Always slow down when in doubt, never speed up.

I use a 360 degrees blind spot RVM, the one that you can buy from Amazon for 50 dollars which you can instantly attach on your stock RVM. You can see all the cars behind you clearly with this mirror and IMO it looks quite nice.
With a good detector+waze I like night time for the highway, when conditions are right. There is much less traffic, fewer cops and they tend to be more lenient (but not for triple digits) since you probably won't be weaving in an out of traffic

Quality update! Glad things worked out.

If someone ever comes speeding up to me and I'm in the passing lane and have no where to go, I make sure I can visually identify the car before increasing speed to get out of the way.

I've been told to many times "What good is a RD if the cop is right beside you (or around you)?" to get a ticket that way!

Did you think it was a car trying to race you and you got a little heated up? or you just crusie at 120 on the regular, if so what car do you have? lmao, most cars top out at 120 , so unless you are driving a porsche the only explanation is that you thought he was trying to race and you went for it.No worries it has happened to us all.

My regular cruising speed on the bike is between 90 to 100 mph, but I have the R7 to display a warning over 100 mph because of how easy it is to gain speed on bike with 160 hp full fairings and tall windshield, you can be doing 110 and not realize it.

If a car is coming up behind me I immediately slow down and let him pass to make sure it is not a cop.You can never be too careful.

the reason why he wrote down 119 mph instead of 120 is because over 120 is mandatory arrest in Florida. Over 100 mph is mandatory court appearance, big difference.(on a 70 mph road)

Glad you got it dismissed , that cop cut you a huge deal.

Be safe out there.
