I really want to upgrade my V1 to a newer unit, so I bit the bullet and called. I was told they're still waiting for parts from their vendor and are *hoping* to start shipping this month. The waiting game continues.
I don't mind waiting another month or two if they will be shipping a new and improved product.

Honestly, I don't even mind if it is the old unit. I just need a new one. My current unit is eleven years old. Something to hold me over until the next generation Valentine unit coms to fruition.

Gentlemen, Place your bets!
The race is ON - who will cross the line first?
Radenso or Valentine?
Jockies are in position saddled up with riding crops ready to encourage maximum performance from the beasts that are carrying the design and marketing burden.
Staging lights are on and the bell rings and the gates open. There OFF! Nose to NOSE they cross the threshold...

it could look the same with better bsm filtering and a bit more range and I'd be a happy camper.... GPS would be nice but that's just not in the stars :( Oh and I put $5 on the funny shaped horse with the red arrows.....

I’m up for a new thread to discuss if the mods won’t close and shut it down - again- who cares if it’s mindless chatter at this point - this is what’s on everyone’s mind anyway.

A thread discussing the future V1 and possible features is a great idea. If people are going to whine and complain about the V1 not being in stock....lets not.

Been watching and waiting for the "new" V1. Will minor tweaks be enough? For me range increase to near R levels would make me give it a try. I do like the the JBV1 app but sensitivity and the eliminating falses are key for where I drive daily and the R7 is very solid set up right to do that. Would band display on the unit make any difference to V1 users without more range?

With clarification, I'll say this:

I do not use the display on the front of the unit. I use both a remote display and primarily JBV1.

If Valentine were to make a Concealed Display roughly the same size as the one they have now but with an LED screen instead and more info, that would be nice to have. (I'm not sure that such a screen would require improvements in the V1 itself.) But it certainly wouldn't be a big deal since I already use a much larger screen with all of the features that JBV1 adds to my driving experience.

I don't crave more range, I definitely don't need more filtering. I'm very glad to have a product that is dependable and trustworthy and doesn't require that I baby it.

Pretty sure you meant frequency display. And yes, I’d ditch the smartphone and dongle ensemble if they added a frequency display on the unit.

*EDIT* On second thought I would not ditch it. Being able to use dark mode at night is a huge plus. Can’t achieve that without another display somewhere.

I've had some close encounters of the not so friendly kind with my 2 year old V1 so I would like a bit more range along with better filtering. If the bsm and traffic filters are great I can live without the frequency displayed. I have the R3 right now and the dam thing just quacks all the way home and the fact that i can see the frequency just pisses me off more :(

The ability to log alerts is pretty big as well.

I get that alerts are logged but what value is that and how often do you use it? I break up alerts by different tones for K vs Ka but with so few falses not sure if I would really go back and review anything as each encounter is different. Do you use it with the app to set different profiles based on location? That's something that to me is high value but generally with most falses filtered probably more of a curiosity look which I can appreciate.

My bad, I forgot V1 display separates bands but not frequencies. I usually just see 34.7 range most of the time so the actual frequency to me doesn't matter, just if it's Ka vs K.

Had both R1 and R3, shut off K as it was horrible falsing to the point where I went back to my R-O running just Ka. The R7, at least as I have it set up is ridiculously quiet running both K and Ka. My tolerance for false K is near zero which is why the R1/3 were sold and even prior to that I shut of K on them.

I do hope the V1 adds some range as the JBV1 app with overlay into other apps is hard to resist all else being equal.

Logging is probably more important to some of us. JBV1 already does quite a bit with the logging feature.

For example: Two days ago I drove 260 miles and was not hit with Ka at all that day.
I have that info available to me at any time. It doesn't take a lot of work to see the info, maps, histograms, etc.

I'm not a Valentine One or death kind of guy but I do appreciate any product that stands the test of time. The fact that its still around today and relevant is amazing in itself. It's like an old chevy nova, not much to look at and not the fastest thing on the planet but ran for ever and did exactly what it was made to do :)

As a CM enthusiast and contributor to RD Forum, fairly frequently. That being said, I acknowledge that for the average "I just want to know about cops running radar" user (like my wife), logging is unimportant.

But for me? Pretty high-value feature.

I'll write it again and again.

FM modulation detection as in MRCD/MRCT and Gatso RT series, with distinct alerts, along with filtering like BSM etc.

Tested it on a Greek highway with no filtering at all. It could be quiet if, after some routes, the driver feels safe to mute K band falsing from stationary sources like railroad stations (the most annoying thing when the road is parallel to the train line). If TMF is used it's more quiet but it can't detect speed cams stationary and/or mobile.

Yup, same in Ecuador. Lots of low powered K band photo radars and TMF2 will block some of them out altogether. Fortunately, K band falses are rare on the highways so an alert is usually the real deal usually with at least a 500 meter advanced warning. Enough warning to slow down although most are marked on Waze anyway so not a big deal.

Application 15/486,852 is on the glide path for becoming a patent by the end of the 2019.

On 07/02/2019, Valentine agreed this application would co-terminate on April 27, 2035 with Patent 9658319, the original High Probability of intercept detector patent.
On 07/15/2019, the Reasons for Allowance transaction occurred.

Based on History, my SWAG is:
  • By 08/09/2019, Verification will be complete, and the Notice of Allowance will go out.
  • By 11/25/2019, the Patent Issue Notification will go out.
  • By 12/15/2019, the new Patent will be in the books.

Happy Holidays!

On a side note, more work needs to be done on Application 15/486,873. On 6/11/2019, Valentine agreed to split this application into two parts (Group I: signal identification through frequency analysis, Group II: signal selection based on pulse shape analysis), and focus on the Group I claims.

On 07/18/2019, the Information Disclosures were considered, and the application was (Non-Final) rejected. So Valentine will need to modify this application.

@Tallyho: Any response to my SWAGs??
