Does valentine research really need this part to be approved to come out with something better than the current unit that has been around for 20+ years?
With JBV1 it's already better overall than any thing else.

The current unit has been around for 20+ years in name only. The current V1 is a very different device. That the interface is largely similar is a testimonial to the genius of the initial design. Unlike some other devices, there is no issue with screen burn, and with an app. info available is unexcelled.

Everytime these threads pop up I feel a short burst glimmer of hope which quickly fades way into nothingness.

I do have a question- did TMF2 junk fighter come out of nowhere when it was released or did the community catch wind of something in the works in advance ? Doesn’t seem much gets past the community’s nosey nose of scrutiny, snooping, and sleuthing

Came out of nowhere with no advanced notice. We already had TMF1 and this was an upgrade.

Based on the patent timeline it looks like it's 2020 and even beyond.

Me too. But what takes the edge off [for me anyway] is that simultaneously, while waiting for VR to release 'the big one', you know Uniden is working on arrows. So for me, there's two horses in this race. My next purchase will be whichever comes out first.

How does something get screen burn in when there is no screen. Don’t get me wrong mike original V1 was ground breaking. Very well thought out for the user. I loved that 2 volume control, arrows bogey counter

But it’s time to add a legit screen. The V1 now is like watching the original Star Trek with Kirk and Spock.

They did in a way. It's the ESP protocol and whatever size screen you want to use with it. :)

I'd like to add some thoughts to the "V1 with a screen" idea.

- As shown by other devices that use AMOLED screens, burn is an issue. (I chose a non-amoled screen for my current phone for that very reason.) I'd beg for a standard display that could last 15-20 years without issues. All of my original V1 stuff still lit up perfectly after 16 years when I upgraded.

- Screens on detectors are often plagued by trying to fit relevant info on less than a 1" x 2" or 3" space. It should be easy to understand quickly and without squinting or staring.

- Many V1 users that have the option choose a remote display of some sort. Having a fancy display on my units would have been a waste. For over 18 years, I've always used a remote display with my V1s.
In my case, the V1 might be a bit more expensive with a fancy display that won't get used. Then the $49 dollar remote would likely be more expensive as well.
Additionally, the simple remote is a nice compliment to the phone screen I'm almost always using.

- ESP and a $39 accessory allows so many more features that any display would.

While what you say is true, and I love seeing all that info on my remote display, I would be happy to ditch the remote display for a ‘V2’ with even a single frequency readout on the RD itself. For the frequency readout on the RD, give me the option to override the strongest signal for anything Ka first.

For reference, the only display I use is the arrows themselves and maybe the signal strength meter. V1Driver tells me the frequency and direction out loud. I don’t need my detector to burn the time into the display.

Quite honestly, as far as "display upgrades" for the V1 or hypothetical V2, I would be happy with just the addition of color to help differentiate bands and signal strength. I know we can send it in the third parties to get the mod done, but that's really something that should be stock.

I was under the mistaken impression then that the combined display had already been granted a patent. The good news is that it appears that the patent rejection has been overcome as evidenced by the 11-27-18 entry which indicates the "Reasons for Allowance".

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

... By way of comparison, it was another 4 months from the "Reasons for Allowance" to patent issue in the case of the first High Probability of Intercept patent.

Well, if you want arrows that suddenly disappear with an update, or fail to work, or work in reverse, go right ahead. And, I bet the Uniden won't be $449.
V1's will be working reliably for another 30 years.

Ha. The V1 doesn't beat any device today in very many categories, if any. Everything else has surpassed it. I don't know why people still buy them if it weren't for an app and add-ons. Radenso has BSM down best, Uniden has range and built-in customization down the best..the Valentine One has the best arrow switching time ignoring remote mounted units...?

People have been waiting decades for Valentine to release the big one. There's always rumors every year and every year Valentine disappoints.
