Howdy Folks:

Hope you are well. I'm going to be traveling through CT and MA on the way to Maine in a few weeks. The old RDFGS lists that CT and MA Staties still use K band....how often do you see it on the highways? Would it be dangerous to disable K band? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I have encountered one or two CTSP running K band on the Merritt Parkway recently, but most run 34.7 or the occasional 33.8 C/O. I have seen Stalkers running as high as 34.840 in CT, so it would probably be wise to enable Seg 6 or equivalent as well. Watch out for 34.7 I/O on 95 when you are crossing through NH. The NHSP seem to be very fond of it lately.

I'll actually be in CT almost all of next week, so I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I come across any K band.

I rarely encounter K band in CT, but i would never turn it off since there has been 2 occasions i have encountered troopers on 84 using K band.

Ramp up was a very important at communicating it was a real LEO.

Thanks NPark,

Jeez, I honestly can't tell you the last time I saw KBand from MASP. I saw it once last year right around this time near Exit 50 on 95N. Near like Danvers/Peabody. If you're coming thru Connecticut up 84 you'll be central/western MA. I don't have much experience out in the far west besides Rt.2. RT 2 is all Ka and some laser in the mix. Watch the left side. The median on Rt 2 near Winchester/Winchendon has those pesky cut outs. Sometimes they sit there shooting laser. Don't know what gun but they do. I also know that their tolerance on Rt 2 is in between +10 to +15 depending on time of day. Later at night it seems to be more or at least in my experience. In one year driving Rt 2 every weekend both towards Fitchburg and towards templeton in the opposite direction I only came across 3 Ka signals. I'm under the impression K band at least in that troop depot is minimal. Usually 34.7 according to RDFGS.

Just reread the post and saw you're going to maine. You'll most likely connect up to the pike or 90/290 and that moves along at 80 usually. No worries there. Then from there probably 495, which again moves at 80. I've only seen Ka on this two. Once you get into NH be careful. NHSP on 95N have a very small tolerance for speeding. Their cars are hard to see during the day and at night. They're like OD green and brown. Ugly as sin but difficult to spot. If you're on 95N in maine their cruisers are powder blue. Like ugly ugly ugly blue. Usually the newer Taurus SHO, marked and unmarked. At night they have an unmarked running between York (where I used to live) to Portland trying to bait people into racing. Super illegal but they do it. In Maine just use common sense. If you get the feeling there's an officer... there probably is

Hope this helps, didn't really answer the question directly.

So CTSP is 99.0% all laser now on the highways. I know quite a few CTSP and they are all lidar. Truespeed/LRB/ and believe it or not; marksman. (CT has a contract with LTI) Personally i have had K off for a while now (5 years) and have no worries with it off. I haven't seen a radar run in CT probably in the same amount of time. The only time you will see radar in CT are the troopers that patrol the small back-roads of the towns that dont have their own police department. So if you are all highway.. Turn K off and have no worries. Hopefully you have ALP though!!!!

Cant help you with the rest of the trip but at least i can be confident in my recommendation flying through CT! Remember all CTSP are unmarked Grey Crown Vics, Taurus, Explorers, and under-cover Chevy caprice PPV's (as well as black)

I would not recommend disabling K band in CT. It's still around. Late last year, I was on Rt. 15 S in Wallingford approaching Exit 64 and picked up CSP running K. As you pass the exit the road drops which limits your view. The trooper was just past the entrance ramp; really good spot for a trap. No big deal since he was running C/O but I/O would have been bad. I'll never disable K. I'll deal with the BSMs rather than being sorry.

I haven't seen Legit K band in CT in years, but I'm mostly on RT 8, and there it's mostly Laser, occasionally KA. Around town I have seen K band but still really rare. That said I don't get that many BSM falses as there aren't a crazy number of cars on my commute that trigger falses so K band being on isn't usually too annoying. WAZE is usually pretty on Point especially if you are driving near peak traffic. Honestly CT doesn't really seem to be too crazy on speed enforcement, but when they do the use laser.

How nice it must be to have little enforcement...if only that was the case here...nah, then I wouldn't have vids for everyone.

I agree. Though I have only encountered K band twice in CT it was in the passed two years. And though it may be unlikely in certain parts of the state I wouldn't bother turning it off.

I've seen the MA SP running K-band 2 or 3 times this year. It's rare, most of their enforcement is using lidar and some Ka but it's still out there.

What are you running for an RD these days? I'd say you're better off keeping K-band on unless you have a Redline or Magnum, in which case turning off K-band and resorting to Waze/rabbits/brake lights would probably be better as there's a LOT of cars with BSM around here.

1. In CT,I have seen K-band used by Troopers in years past but not recently. You face unmarked Cruisers (as detailed by ThreePedals6.2) & mostly Lidar, but "pacing" is also a common tactic. (I've been caught twice by this method...grrrr !)

2. In Mass. Troopers use K-band & ALL 3 Ka bands & that's a FACT, I've encountered ALL many times & 'pacing', too. Expect to encounter LTI lidar also, they use to have LaserAtlanta but havn't seen one in 3+ years.

3. NH Troopers use PL3 & Ka radar.

4. Maine is Ka & last Lidar seen by me was a PL3...not sure if they use anything else. Also they have some unmarked Cruisers (Taurus/old Crown Vics) & last year saw a Trooper on I-95 w/ a customer near Portland...he had an unmarked Mustang...1st time I've ever seen that !
If you take the Coastal route of I-295 outta Portland there's ~20mi of TSR K-band radar that's annoying as hell...I go that way most times b/c it's Toll free all the way up to Augusta where you have to get back on the Maine Tpke which isn't free. ;)

Was up in Maine last year. Encountered Maine State PD running 34.7 & 35.5. Pretty sure portions of Maine Turnpike have traffic sensors. (24.200 every mile to mile and a half).

Like RR said K band is alive and well in MA. State is usually Ka but some still have K, I see K mostly with local PDs. Same with Maine, most locals I run into still using K.

Lately all of my MA state police encounters have been K-band - around me they were running 35.5 previously - now all I see from them is K-band.

I travel Route 2 or I90 every weekend, depending on my mood. Route 2 I've encountered K and KA, but haven't with laser yet. I90 only KA and a laser so far. Have anyone experience any out of tune guns?
