Just a quick note, I drove to Vegas using these detectors. Originally my plan was to use the 360Ci for Laser and K band coverage and the R3 for Ka, but my luck improved. Turns out for one reason or another, when flowing at highway speeds I get very little Autopilot Ka falsing from the 360Ci. As a result I was able to get some Ka experience on both units.

3 34.7 hits: 2 times, R3 alerted first by 1-2 seconds. Once, they alerted at the same time. Initial onset did not appear terrain limited. All 3 encounters were impressive shows by both detectors -- 2-3 mile pickups from opposing lane rolling constant on! For California terrain that's pretty good.

4 33.8 hits: wow, Max360Ci beat the R3 every time albeit only by 2 seconds at most. Also multi-mile pickups including sloppy IO. (I counted multiple IO hits as the same encounter -- both were consistent). Had an overlapping situation where arrows came in handy: passed one NHP in median running 33.8. Everyone started speeding up but the MaxCi still said one bogey ahead one behind. Uniden R3 only showed one signal at the time though it was gaining in strength, though I had muted it. Both would've saved you if you paid attention but the arrows make it dead clear the nature of the threat.

    No laser at all.

I was running Ka Narrow and Ka Filter Off on the R3 and got 2 of what I suspected to be ghosts: 34.699 and 34.720. One blip each, no cop found. Can't prove there wasn't a distant cop though. Overall ghosting is definitely improved in the new firmware.

MaxCi gave one 33.810 hit that the R3 didn't alert to. I had to get off the freeway at that point so unclear if it was a false or not.

On the K band front: no legit encounters. MaxCi alerted to a set of overlapping TSR sensors in Bakersfield, rear antenna only. MaxCi was very tolerable on the freeway for K band noise, and didn't find any BSM offenders. Drove past 4 different Pacificas with BSM indication in the mirror, no PT. Of course those aren't 100% indicative, but what I feel is indicative is a 600 mile trip and no BSM complaints. Sorry, didn't have K turned on on the R3. Will make sure to do so on the return trip.

    That's it for now!

Nice! Did you use auto or highway mode on the max?

Auto this time. Mainly because my original plan was not to do any comparisons. It was just supposed to stay out of the way unless we see a K band unicorn which hasn't happened for 2+ years for me, haha.

I've been driving around a little more with both detectors. One phenomenon I've been noticing is, unfortunately, I find myself not taking Uniden R3 alerts seriously, especially when they're 34.7 centered. I got 2 legit long-range 34.7 encounters last weekend (ran with Ka Off on Max360Ci, high Autopilot falsing area), but besides those I also saw 5 or 6 34.7 blips that came and went within latch time (usually 1 bar, sometimes up to 3), and that was it. I would lean towards falsing, though sure, maybe it's possible it was an extremely range pickup where the cop wasn't on my freeway or got off before I could find him. But psychologically, I find myself either waiting for the MaxCi to agree, or waiting for the signal to ramp before taking any action.

I've gone back to Ka Narrow + Ka Filter On. On one leg of my Tahoe trip, I ran Ka Narrow + Ka Filter OFF, but found numerous 33.753 and 35.xxx alerts that didn't correspond to a source. Those are not usual frequencies in these particular areas so they're unlikely to be legit. Just the Bay Area <-> Tahoe weekend migrations bring along lots of interesting cars with interesting signals.

Odd you didn't run into any Kustom or Decatur units but that many MPHs? They must be marketing heavy....

We Californians live in a reeeeally weird place. Both my Vegas trip and my Tahoe trips are like less than 5% by miles in Nevada.

In CA, Stalker is exclusive with CHP so you see nothing but 34.7 on the freeways except a few rare exceptions (national parks are federal and U.S. Park Police use Kustom; certain near-Tahoe county sheriffs in Placer County have 35.5 and I’ve seen them stop customers on the freeway).

Once I cross into Nevada I only have like a half hour or less of driving. I guess I get lucky and don’t see enforcement most of the times. NHP seems exclusive with MPH so it’s all 33.8. It’s been literally years since I’ve seen real 35.5.
