Remember also that with this type of cloud sourcing you're not always helping yourself. It may be that you don't get the advantage of a certain alert from a license plate from your own camera, but other users will get that alert and you will get the alerts from other users cameras. Maybe a user up ahead just passed a car with a license plate in the db. You could be alerted that 2 minutes ago, a LEO was there.
Yep, exactly. Good points made here.

The sophistication of the proposed RDFGS 2.0 is quite extraordinary. I assume there will be a list of compatible hardware requirements, phones, dashcams etc. to ensure maximum compatibility? There's a lot of variables here

I think the ALPR camera requirements will likely be a challenge with this part of the project. Im not sure how many consumer level products exist in the market that would be reliable for this purpose. Its more likely that this will become an additional part of the hardware development for this project. If you have seen how police cars have multiple cameras on the outside of their vehicles you will get an idea of the complexity of a reliable ALPR.

Yes, we're going to be making it as compatible as possible. I actually started working on a new signup form for the RDFGSv2 (for beta tester signups/information request on what hardware everyone will be using) before my bowels decided to explode Sunday. I will have that up later tonight (Wednesday).

Yeah I expect more along the lines that the ALPR stuff will be more along the lines as a helper for people to manually correct detection via the software side of things. We'll see.

I want to jot this down here before I forget. Has it been suggested to work the RDFGS into radar detector recommendations?

Envision a flow chart that asks a series of questions such as driving locale which then brings in the data from the RDFGS to make better recommendations for more difficult guns (e.g., 35.5) or based on known tactics (aggressive I/O in NC).

Well, we (puma) created a tool to do that at the time, but detectors change/get created all the time so it would have to be a pretty fluid system - something that the RDFGSv2 intends on being. I'm sure we could put together using analytics/gathered data from users/stats from detectors/etc the ability to best choose a detector based on a user's preferences.

Ok, yeah there is that. And now that I say that, maybe the approach which requires more active thought on the part of the requesting member is a better approach than just a passive flow chart experience.

Well a flow chart can still be a helpful tool! Maybe like you said, not the main thing to consider when asking for a recommendation, but still a supplement nonetheless.

I've been looking for the beta testing sign up. Hopefully, I haven't missed it.

It's not live yet - I just re-integrated the questionnaires system today, and will be adding the RDFGSv2 Testers/Info Request form for you guys to submit very soon :).

I think we're going to be doing a lot of event-driven data analysis with the RDFGSv2 project - so I think what you are talking about is something that can be integrated with it pretty strongly. The system will essentially learn the individual user's unique style of driving/operating apps/etc, and with that data we'll definitely be able to make recommendations regarding products. I know this sounds big brothery, but don't worry guys - we're not facebook or Google, we're not going to sell any data to any third parties or do any stupid bullshit with it - that's completely against everything we believe in, and the RDFGSv2 is going to be an official project of RDF - thus the values instilled in RDF are the values instilled in the RDFGSv2.

A couple quick ideas. I'll go back and reread this thread soon so maybe some of this has already been suggested.

Options for not only X/K/Ka/Laser etc, but also MRCD, MRCT, Gatso, or even specific guns like the DragonEye.

I'd love to see people be able to send in verification for their reports. You saw the DragonEye? Did you physically see the gun? Do you have dashcam footage? Did you get shot and your ALP's alerted to the DragonEye? Did you find police purchasing records for your city? Your RD can alert to MRCD, for example, but because falses can and do happen, a better way to verify would be helpful to avoid false reports.

A way to clean up dated X band reports? I'm not totally sure how, but that'd be great too. :)

I actually worry about the amount of information that we're going to be gathering - it may be TOO intimidating and seem too complex. I think I'm going to make it in a flow style of system instead of one huge form where they can submit everything about a report all at once by default, and if they want to use the entire report form they can as well.

Cleaning up outdated reports will be extremely important too. We're going to be using algorithms to do threat predictions and all that and taking into account time/pruning old reports (but keeping them for historical reference/allowing people to see the entire history of an area will be possible).

But yeah, we'll be starting development on this later this month, it's going to be rather exciting - along with all of the new stuff coming to the forum.

I think something key to wide adoption of this app will be user friendliness. There's going to be a lot of complexity, but so long as users can activate options in layers or steps as they grow familiar, it will keep people from feeling overwhelmed with information. A driver can only focus on so much before something critical gets missed.

This project sounds really awesome. @xydrine will you be looking for any programming help or is this a one man band? I’d like to contribute some programming!

Right now, myself and @SquirrelMaster are the primary development team for it but we'd love to collaborate with you and go from there - we're in the very early stages of all of this (but rapidly increasing toward development launch). If you want to hop into RocketChat that would 100% be the best way to collaborate regarding this specific project.

Either way I'll discuss this with SM and we'll be in touch soon.
