RDF,

Please submit feature requests for the RDFGS 2.0 project here in this thread. Hopefully your ideas will help incite thoughts in other member's minds and we will all start to get a clearer picture on what exactly we want this project to look like in the end.

Thank you!

I would love to be able to hit a button, report the cop, possibly the department (if the app is tracking via GPS), then select what equipment he's using.

Have it track speed trap locations.

Not sure if you'll be able to integrate it with FlightRadar24/Flightaware or not.

Give you GPS directions.

Have it alert you to weather so you can change your speed accordingly, plan gas stops, pee stops, etc.

Absolutely, most of those ideas are high priority.

Within the coming weeks I'll be updating this thread with a collaborative list of every feature/idea I've come up/what you guys have come up with thus far that'll be targeted for release, but don't let this stop you if you think I *may* already have some of these features on the list, from posting here - the more the better. :)

hmmm, so if someone is heading out on a trip, the ability to select a State and see what bands are in use, if they need TSR, what laser guns are in use, etc. That'll be helpful for people who are wanting to know how best to program their detectors. It'd be helpful to simplify the "what segments should I enable if I drive in ABC states" questions too.

The main thing I wish was having a better way of cleaning up stale/dated X band info. Last I remember, nearly half the states were listed as using X band and there's no way that's correct. I'm assuming that additions to the RDFGS will be tagged with the contributor's name so we could always go back and find out who reported it initially and ask if they have more info or more up to date info.

What about a listing of what lidar guns and radar frequencies (ie. 33.8, 34.7, and 35.5) are in use in each area. Basically standardizing things. Would be helpful for covering different segments or even having a dropdown box and seeing where the Dragoneye guns are in use. We could do something similar for out of tune guns since people are always wondering about that.

Yep, I don't remember if you remember the 'future ideas' part of RDFGS 1.0 but we were originally going to design something where you would enter your start location and end location, and it would show you states/counties/whatever you pass through and tell you what exactly you'd be encountering and where. With RDFGS 2.0 this is going to be a reality and it's going to be rather in-depth as well. The mapping API we'll be using, such as OpenStreetMap, makes this kind of "trip planning" as I believe we called it originally rather easy and with granular control.

The main thing I wish was having a better way of cleaning up stale/dated X band info. Last I remember, nearly half the states were listed as using X band and there's no way that's correct. Yeah no kidding, data that will be inputted will be very well documented - not just to give credit to those who contribute (and on that subject, for people who do a lot of contributing and such, we're going to have rankings and rewards/awards similar to how Waze operates), but for accuracy purposes. A single report of X band in an entire state when there are tens of hundreds of people traversing that state on a daily basis will obviously be very scrutinized.

Data analysis and reporting/prediction is going to be a HUGE part of this project.

What about a listing of what lidar guns and radar frequencies (ie. 33.8, 34.7, and 35.5) are in use in each area. Basically standardizing things. Again, data gathering is going to be another huge part of this project. We're not going to invade people's privacy like Google or anything like that, lol, but RDFGS 2.0 is going to have a plethora of information able to be submitted/viewed, from small back-road levels all the way up to large stretches of interstates, from gun types/radar frequencies used in those areas, even specific encounters with specific officers (should people want to submit that information) to large scale state police operations.

RDFGS 2.0 is going to be pretty much a big brother approach dedicated to anti-big brother speed enforcement/tactics of all types. We have such a great community and it's going to expand rather rapidly once this system launches. Best thing... we control who sees it. Yes that's right for any LEs/whoever else outlined in rule #1 here listening, your job is about to become a lot harder ;). And of course, all perks of not having our servers hosted in the USA ;). /checkmate

I really honestly can't wait to start working on this project, lol...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, it's an enormous undertaking. It definitely seems worthwhile and sounds like something that will be insanely helpful though, can't wait to see it through the progressions and stages it goes through as well as helping out where I can. Thanks xydrine

Edit:
Ok so here's one, are scanner channels & info going to be included in this?

I believe I mentioned this, but alot of us are keen on what vehicles are used/what speed measurement they use. I'll elaborate. My town: x, has multiple explorers, and one stealth taurus. ALL radar 34.7. No LIDAR, no 33.8, 35.5, no nothing else. Say like houston, bigger town, ie, Tahoes from x dept, shoot 35.5, stealth camaros from y dept. shoot LIDAR. That sorta thing. Gives people in the area an idea of what to expect, and look out for.

Honestly, anything that is helpful is on the table, I don't know much about the ins and outs of scanners/radio freqs and how they apply so if you guys can give specifics on what you'd like to see as part of the project, that'd be helpful - again, the more detailed the better.

There's going to be a lot of information due diligence that will need doing to design this project, and me doing everything is just a bad way to go about it... so as part of developing the project, I'll be putting "bounties" (i.e. I'll pay $50 for someone to write me an article explaining the ins and outs of this or that) on details and research I need done to help me develop certain features and whatnot. This will be a good way to both help out the project development and give back to the community at the same time.

Agreed, users will actually be able to submit pictures of vehicles and speed cameras and all sorts of different types of media as well.

There's a general member right now requesting calibration and certification info from the last two counties in SC where RDFGS claims X band
We'll be able to check off SC soon

Not sure if you have to be a state resident to request the records

With an elevated post and some members taking initiative we could clear out most X band in the states

Honestly, I wonder how much details we could find out about equipment by a FOIA request... could issue tons of FOIA requests all over the US and have a very accurate picture of what is being used where...

What about voice activated commands?

The issue with this is, you'd need scanners all over the country to effectively do this. With the scanner apps, you can only program certain bands, so you'll be missing things.

Ah I see what your saying, I was more or less looking for info like 'state highway runs on channels x & y, never uses the other three channels, sheriff's use channel z'. Etc.

I personally have not used scanners as a countermeasure but we have many people who do - they obviously don't tell complete pictures but they must be beneficial to some else our guys wouldn't bother.

Is it sad that part of me wants to pull every scanner feed available in at the same time and try to interpret via speech recognition where certain threats might be? Lol...

Scanners are extremely useful within the right set of circumstances and can't be replaced by anything else for the purpose it serves

It would be very useful even though it would be a very limited number of times per year a member would use it

I'm guessing if the right circumstances were recorded and easily accessible, scanners and scanner feeds would be used more by our members. So when it comes time to outline the features planned/being investigated for this project, I'll make sure this subject is included. As I mentioned in previously, there are certain things I will need explained/outlined to me when it comes to specifics and everything, so if you know about all this scanner stuff, I'm hoping you'll keep an eye out for when those requests for information are made so we can move forward with these ideas :).

I'm going to be using this thread for feature ideas as well - mainly for when I'm not at my main PC with access to the documents I'm keeping all these feature ideas in. I really need to just say screw it and convert all my PCs into thin clients, so I can boot into them from literally anywhere.

Another idea I was thinking of is when it comes to the collaboration functions for the app (more professional way of saying chat, lol)... Sadly the best example of the chat system style I'm thinking about is utilized in MMORPGs frequently... basically, the app will have chat functionality, and certain channels (chat rooms) will be auto-joined and auto-leaved based on the location you are currently at... Example...:

You are a user using the app and you are currently at Memphis, TN. The chat channels your app will be connected to (automatically managed) will include a channel for the country you are in (so, USA), as well as the state you are in (in this case, Tennessee). Once you cross the TN border into Arkansas for example, you will be automatically removed from the TN channel and added to the Arkansas one. Yes, just like zones/worlds in MMORPGs, lol.

Of course all these functions will be able to be disabled/whatever at your leisure, but the option will be available to you should you choose to use it :).

I don't know how feasible this is, but integration with Bluetooth-enabled systems would be amazing. V1, Max2/360, ALP/NetRadar, if they get a hit the user could tap to confirm or someotjwr such interaction. Falses get reported along with actual encounters. Etc.

There are a couple primary uses for the RDFGS 2.0 project, and then there are a ton of secondary uses. Integration with devices/apps (i.e. Escort Live, YaV1, etc) which support communication is one of the primary uses - this is a huge part of the project and really the cornerstone of it. Automation is something that I try to design into every project I work on, this one is no different. Sure you will be able to upload logs and everything but real-time interaction with devices is paramount for this project IMO. And it is very feasible, I've already done a lot of research on it - we're going to integrate with as many countermeasure devices as possible (really anything that supports it) - hence the mentioning in one of my RDFGS 2.0 brainstorming threads that part of the funding is going to need to go towards the purchasing of equipment to allow me to test/code it all (and like I said there as well, after the testing/coding is done, stuff like this which is not needed anymore will be given back to the community - i.e. in the form of a raffle/giveaway etc).

Maybe I'll finish writing up the overall intent/plans for the RDFGS 2.0 sooner than later and post it ahead of schedule, because it seems like a lot of people have an idea how huge this project is going to be and how extensive it's going to be, but there's also a bunch of people who don't know exactly what all is possible/planned/what it all entails. I partly blame myself for that because it's somewhat spread out in various threads on RDF, but like I said, perhaps I'll move the intent/plans proposal stuff up in the schedule.

I'm not sure about the technologies/APIs involved and what all is possible, but I would actually see this as ideally a replacement for EL/YaV1/V1Driver rather than trying to find ways to hook into those apps. I'd like to think Tom would be willing to work from the ALP/NR side. Not sure about VR; they might find it really exciting or could be entirely disinterested. Escort I would assume would be ambivalent, but you never know.

Integration of YaV1 with RDFGS 2.0 is one of the features requested in the YaV1 future development thread here: https://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=55264

Issue/request tracker is here: https://yav1dev.atlassian.net/projects/YAV/issues/

Seems like there is a lot of overlap between what we would like to see in an updated YaV1 and the vision for RDFGS 2.0, and it makes sense to integrate things sooner rather than later to avoid duplication of effort. I will post in the YaV1 development thread to make sure those working on it are aware of this thread.
