RDF,

As you all must know by now, the RDFGS 2.0 is going to be a huge, feature rich project. While we all are familiar with the RDFGS title, my train of thought leads me in the direction of having a separate, new name for this endeavor.

Honestly, choosing a name for a project is one of the hardest tasks there is. Even when we created RDF we struggled for a while only to settle on Radar Detector Forum, which eventually shortened into RDForum and RDF.

Since the RDFGS 2.0 is essentially a community-inspired and driven project, it would bring me no greater joy to allow you all to help me name the thing.

For those looking for some details on what the RDFGS 2.0 aims to be, please check out these threads:

https://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=61832
https://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=62872
https://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=59323

Hopefully this will give you a better picture of what we plan on doing with the RDFGS 2.0 - I am saving the big big big big announcement outlining all the details about it for when we launch our crowdfunding campaign (which I am planning for at the beginning of August).

With that all said, please help me name it! Feel free to discuss names and whatnot here in this thread - my only request is you leave suggestions like "Boaty McBoatFace" at the door,.

I generally start thinking of name ideas based on US government codewords, something like Tempora would be rather cool or a cool way to start.

Brainstorm away! :)

Again, choosing a name is one of the hardest parts about projects like this...

Some ideas I had, perhaps they will help stimulate some more ideas regarding a name for this project...:

Sentinel
Assailant
Virgil
Dante (lol @ name above this one)
Shade

God I hate naming things...

This thread isn't getting a lot of views here. Would you be open to moving it to the general forum or maybe linking it there?

My ideas:

Escutcheon
Aegis

It's in the RDFGS dedicated section which is really where I want it, but I agree I need to look into getting this entire section a little more visibility.

Gotta say, Escargot might take the cake. Something to play off that - My Car go? My cargo? Mycargot?

Maybe something to play of Waze? Means?

I'm the worst at naming things also, maybe this helps trigger a couple more ideas?

What's worse is I'm extra picky about names. When we named rdf radar detector forum I had to compromise with it, it was just so very basic. But the abbreviation was good and we later made it rdforum so it turned out okay.

It depends on if you want it to just sound cool or to be a deeper literary/movie reference, such as to a character, especially one who resisted surveillance or authoritarianism, etc, and can be recognizable in pop culture or more subtle.

Doesn't necessarily have to be that deep.

Hey, I thought of a funny one though... play on words for SIGINT (signals intelligence)...

PIGINT

Lol.

Maybe we can at least refer to the type of intelligence gathering we do here at RDF as PIGINT unofficially, lol.
