Won't that reduce the K sensitivity/reaction time? I already have both K filter and K Narrow on.
All the nannies in these new cars really suck. If I do have some kind of radar running, I might have to code it out in VCDS, if that's possible
Turn car on,, it gos on ? Turn car off. It goes off ? Backup and pull forward, it goes on ?

Then car?.
?

I did a factory reset.
I upgraded the firmware 1.46
It will not detect photo radar.

First video is 55 seconds long. Shows me driving past a photo radar. I know he was active as I saw his flash go off when I was driving straight for him. Then at the next corner I turned around and drove past him and my R3 never went off either time.

Second video is a long one, 3 min and 45 seconds. It is me showing my settings. Maybe I have something wrong? You can skip to the 54 second mark and start from there, the first part is me babbling on.

Anybody know the speaker that's used? I need to swap mine and don't want to send it in.

Hi guys, I received my factory replacement R3 last Jan 10, 2019 (Original unit wasn't detecting any radar signal at all verified with my R1 )

So this replacement unit has a 90 days warranty.
Hooked the new R3 back in my car and just a few days of driving, I was getting a lot of false laser alert. This is both eith the newer firmware and the previous one. My R1 never alerted me to any false laser signal eversince I bought it. So I don’t think this is normal at all. With or without my phone that people says interfere with the R3 and causes false laser alert is not true.

I called Uniden and asked them to replace it with a non defective unit and also asked them to take care of the shipping which they did since it’s under 90 days warranty.

Now my R3 is back to Uniden and hopefully they give me a better unit. The 1 replacement I got wasn’t even factory reset. Seems like it’s been returned to and just recycled back to me...

hello, i'm so sorry if this issue has been covered already but I can't seem to permanently delete speed camera locations. I can mute/delete just fine for red light camera location though. Is this normal behavior for R3 on firmware 1.48?

You cannot delete a speed camera alert according to the release notes for FW 1.46 and it doesn't show in the manual. I too had been able to do it for a time, but I don't remember what firmware I was on. I'm running 1.37 now and cannot do it.

I haven't followed the R1/R3 enough recently to update this thread. If someone wants to comment things that need to be changed I'll happily update the OP.

So with the R7 being the next best thing I guess updates to the R3 are a thing of the past :( (last update of any kind January 2019)

The R1/R3 are pretty refined besides MRCD performance and BSM filtering. Both of those things need some work on the R7 as well, which Uniden is now focused on from what I’ve read in another thread. The R1/R3 wasn’t designed for MRCD, so there’s a chance that may not get much better... although it was performing well in firmware 1.46. The R7 being their flagship model will of course get the majority of their attention until it’s more refined, but the R1/R3 have not been forgotten.

New R7 doen't make your R1/R3 a crap detector all of sudden. Still a great unit and near the top of all detectors. No different then the new model year of a car that has all those cool new things you didn't get on yours the previous year.

Never said it did, I'm not one who wanted or needed arrows, I'm happy with the R3, what I did say is updates for it got pushed aside in favor of the R7, why did I spend the extra money for an R3 over an R1 if they don't at least update the database for speed and red light cams. Some places are installing new ones every week while others are getting rid of them.

Plus there are a few things that still need to be refined, like the whole BSM thing and segmenting K band at the very least to help with the BSM.

I have the R3 and K band BSM etc make the unit almost unbearable unless you drive in city mode on highway. Like paying for the V8 and pulling 6 spark plugs.... They should have fixed the flaws in the R! and R3 before moving on to R7. JMHO but here in PA it's protecting my glove box for now :(

Same thing I think, If Uniden left it out and just gave us the small bracket with two suction cups on it (like every other windshield mount...) no one would have complained. They toss an extra mount in there, and people complain both won't work. I can't really see any advantages to the bigger one anyway, besides it being bigger and sticking out more, but that's personal preference so I can understand if some people like it.
I happen to like the two black suction cup window mount for my R3. Perfect level with road. I have sound system and it doesn't bounce around at least in my car. My old redline when it was snapped in place right up against the winshield used to make little noises when I turn my music up. So I have no complaints with the R3 double suction cup mount.

Hello all!

I'm new to the forum and I apologize if this issue has been covered somewhere. I did a search and didn't find anything specific.

I have an R3 purchased in September of 2017. It's been great until today.

This morning I noticed the r3 was getting stuck on the self test at "laser". It's locked up and I can't do a factory reset using the buttons (not sure if there is another way to hard reset it).
I was able to get it to be recognized on my PC, so I updated to the latest (Jan 2019) firmware, reconnected it to the Uniden supplied power adapter in my car, and get the same issue. I then reconnected it the PC and tried to re-flash the firmware, but it seems to read the current firmware and firmware .bin file are the same and says "download completed".

Called Uniden. They said send it in and pay $81.95.

Is there anything else I can try before sending it in?

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Yes. Try updating again and click the box that says "Recovery Mode".
It's my understanding that it forces the Files to be overwritten (?)
It's definitely worth a shot.

You might also turn the self test off....(somewhat tongue in cheek)

Thanks for the quick reply!

Updated again with the "recovery mode" box checked and it seemed to rewrite everything. Reconnected in the car and get the same issue.

Is there a way to get it to skip the initial self test? When I connect it, it automatically starts the self test, but locks up after it says "laser". No buttons work after that.
