I know most of you have seen vantablack, one of the blackest black paints in the world. I've been looking around but good luck finding anything like that in production or any affordable price... until I stumbled upon this:

While its not the 'blackest' paint ever made, it is an affordable acrylic paint and still extremely black. I think I might order a bottle to play around with for the price.

Figured maybe some of you guys would be interested in this stuff as well

Id say that's still pretty black.........

About $13.00 a can? Not badly priced and would be fun to play with. Instant JTG............

I'm thinking about painting my chrome colored grill black and this would be perfect. Think I'll pick some up.

Just ordered a bottle. I'll post some pics when I spray the grill.

Yup exactly what I had in mind PointerCone ! I have small small areas on the car I would like to do and this would be great. Would have same issues as the real vantablack such as bugs, dirt, dust etc on top of it ruining performance, but at that price I'll give it a shot

Keep us updated :)

If you feel like doing some tests, I'd be curious to know by how much its performance is impeded when you apply a top coat over it.

I would love to do some tests. I'll have to see if I can find anyone local who'd be interested.

I thought somebody had done a test on performance being affected by paint color and it was minimal(Dragoneye gun) but I sure as heck would like to find out different!

I'll probably be modifying the grill for an ALP sensor in the center as well so a few different possible tests with this.

Even if it doesn't give any performance boost it would be a great eye trick for concealing jammer heads or remotes.

Well no, the color doesn't matter on a car because they all have clearcoat, metal particles, or something else making them reflective. A very matte black paint is non-reflective. Only problem is it might be totally black to visible light but for all we know it could reflect IR just fine.

If I could cover the front surfaces of my car in this for under $100 and guarantee removal later without ruining the real paint, I would let someone test their lidar on me.

thanks

for all the fish

I highly doubt this is removable without ruining the clear coat at the very least.

I'm going to look for someone to test their LIDAR on mine before and after painting and before and after ALP is installed.

Paint is on backorder, waiting for shipping confirmation. I will be sure to keep everyone posted with the progress.

Could always put some film over the car and paint that. Or plastidip. Then paint over the dip.

Just got a shipping notification. Paint is on its way! Says 5-7 days. I'll post some pics when it gets here. If there's anything specific anyone would like to see just let me know.
