I have just had a conversation with the local Uniden importer and they are planning on bringing in the new Uniden detectors sounds like probably the R3 only however. Also looks like they will give the option to lock out various bands that are not in use here, hopefully k band will be able to scan lower frequency than the current LRD950NZ to combat redflex cameras systems will be interesting to see if it's able to beat the 100m max range we are getting out of the redlines/v1s. If anyone gets the NZ version when it comes in would be keen to do a test against a fixed redflex camera.

Very interested to see if there is any improvement in redflex detection as there is in the reported Ka and K bands in the U.S tests. They could have a winner there, as redflex is currently a pain for AU/NZ folks.

Totally agree I am on the first shipment for the US Uniden R1 detector then getting it dropped shipped to nz, will post a video of the a fixed redflex camera when I get it and do a comparison with the lrd850. Would like to have a comparison with the redline if you are around Auckland :)

I am tempted to pull the trigger on the R3, but will wait a while. Unfortunately I am down in Christchurch, so the redflex R1/redline test will have to wait. Let me know your experience with the R1 when you get it, interested, especially redflex performance.

i will also be ordering an r3. not sure if i should wait for nz one or just get 1 from the us. purchase price will be the deciding factor as dont need gps cameras and rlc in my neck of the woods. only will use k band lockouts on the gps. however only if us model can reach the redflex freq. was told by escort that there model could reach 23.950 and usa model useless. in reality only seen mobil cameras arou d 24.080, maybe users in auckland could let us know.

In my opinion, if there is ever an international or AU/NZ version, it is likely to cost 2x the American version. May be worth getting the R3, seeing how it works, you can always sell it on for at least what you bought it for or close enough.

I live in Auckland and have a Redline Pro A which we could use to compare... However the redflex camera on nhapipi Road in mission bay didn't set it off..

Was also thinking of importing an r1 to test against 34.7 threats.

Would be worth checking if you have segment K1 turned on. A lot of units have K band switched off.

Also, I read somewhere, I think stuff.co.nz that the camera's are not in operation 24/7. Don't quote me ;)

A bit like the old cameras, where they used to switch the cameras inside around. I think the new ones can be switched on and off.

Thanks for that dudeinnz.

I did try with k1 on then k on thrn everything on just to be sure... Hoping stuff.co.nz is right. I'll take my bel xr and redline down sometime and test them again.

What ka bands do you have enabled on your redline? Have you found using segmentation useful in terms of detection range?

Redline, for K band I just run with K1.

For Ka band, in N.Z you could just run with segments 5 and 6 on. However in the event NZ gets other Ka guns, I have segment 2 and 8 on as well.

My RDR is also off.

These settings are supposed to increase sensitivity, according to what I have read on the forums. I personally have not done any tests myself.

Thanks for that @dudeinnz.

Okay thanks for that dudeinnz.

Just to get back on topic. When u first heard of the r1 and r3 uniden radars coming out, I emailed uniden nz to ask when they will be getting them. This is the response I received.

"The Uniden R1 & R3 radar detectors are awaiting costing for the hardware modification needed for the NZ radar market.

There is no schedule at this time.

Awesome. I actually was umming and aahing and then pulled the trigger on a US version. I'm suspecting the AU/NZ version will be close to what the DFR7- NZ version is sold for.

Fantastic! Would you like to meet up or just do testing against the same redflex camera? I will have an lrd850 and the Uniden r1 we can use will see if I can find anyone else willing to lend me another detector.

Just saw this. That's about the warning range, or a maybe bit less, that I got on the Ngauranga Gorge fixed camera with my V1. Luckily they're easy to spot, there's a bunch more coming. I get 150 - 200 metres on the van Redflex's. I'm thinking of getting an R1 when all the hype settles down.

Does that camera in the Ngauranga gorge take front or rear shots? Definitely less range on rear shots

K on these US units might not go low enough to see Redflex

LouG wrote
I'm still getting Redflex alerts OK, but our area only has one van. Freqs are all over the place when I've detected vans in other towns, anything from 24.020 to 24.080

R1/3 K Wide: 24.050 - 24.250

This is the reason why I held off buying an r1 from America..

Currently I run my RD's with k off but if I ever went on a long trip it would be nice to have lower k band detection.

It's better not to speculate. Even international models give minimal detection. Let's wait for some test results.
