Hi,

Looking for recommendations to get a 3 + 2 (I think) ALP system with a front and rear radar system installed in my 2014 Porsche Cayman S. Porsche Calgary recommended Mobile Solutions and they look good but they were pushing Escort, with quotes likes this:

Pricing on the full custom installation models is as follows. The MAXci 360 is $6500 installed, the MAXci is $5150, the 9500ci Pro is either $3650 or $4400, depending on where the display is mounted.
This was a bit over what I was thinking. I asked and they do install ALP but had never done netradar. I've read the most important thing is the placement, leveling and testing of the laser jammers. Any reasons I shouldn't go with them? Any reasons I should go with a different radar detector matched with the ALPs?

Thanks

The quotes you got seam VERY HIGH and I would expect an extremely nice install for that much. Anything more than $1500 for installing front and rear laser radar protection high and anything below $800 is great, the only exception to that might be the Stinger VIP which requires a little more time. No ones installed the MAX CI 360 yet so that shouldnt be your concern with the ALP/net radar.
Ask for a portfolio of previous jobs done and their methods for testing the install. If they have none, or dont give you a good explanation for either, WALK.
Dukes is up there and maybe he can help some with a recommendation

That's a great idea. I'll go into the shop and ask for some references for sure. I was fully expecting in the 3k range but not this high, and I'm set on the AL Priority for laser for sure.

If you are fine dropping that amount of money and don't mind a drive up to Edmonton, F/X Audio does outstanding work. Not sure how much they charge, but look at some of the work they have done:

Wow, that work is impressive. This is exactly what I'd expect for this cost - custom fabricated brackets and mounts and make the system blend into the vehicle. Looks great, and something to consider - it's only 3 hours away.

I live in Calgary. If you're looking at doing it on your own I can help. I have a 5 head ALP system, F+R Net Radar as well as the MRCD antenna. We've had many members get installs from shops in the city with terrible results (by that I mean terrible installs with equally bad testing results). I second FX Audio in Edmonton if you're down for the drive. Darcy will take good care of you

Don't go to TunerWorks or ZR Auto. They have no idea what they're doing

I lol'd at the install price of the MaxCI 360. If you do end up going that route, please let us test you. We're hungry to get our hands on the new Shifter Max's

Yeah I'm not getting the Escort system. I think mobile solutions does good work but the pricing is high. I will try to get a quote from them and the shop in Edmonton as well.

Self install is a non starter. I live in a condo and don't have much room in my parkade, and I'm not comfortable taking this car apart or messing with the electronics. Repairs and parts are $$$$$ on Porsches, don't ask me how I know ;)

Hey all,

Sorry for the thread bump. Long time reader, first time poster.

Thinking of getting the net 360 + AL priority (3+2) for my 2018 Grand Cherokee.

I don't trust my handyman skills enough to tackle this project my own so wondering if anyone has come across a good installer in the City of Calgary yet? And a rough estimate of what they charged.

Every google result for shops that do this are mentioned in this thread as a no-go shop so if anyone has found a good installer, the shop name would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Nobody in Calgary will give you a good (proper) install. I'd highly recommend doing it on your own

Good to know things haven't changed! Thanks.

FX Audio is still recommended? I'm willing to make the drive up if they do a good/proper job. This really isn't something I can do on my own. Garage space or knowledge wise.

FX Audio and Obsession Audio in Sherwood Park are 2 in Edmonton I would recommend without hesitation.

I talked to Darcy (I think a couple weeks ago) at Fx. He wants days for an install. Mentioned how cables will eventually run paint off too.

Also hadn't heard of TMG yet.

Darcy @ Mobile Solutions doesnt know what he is or his staff are doing.
Here s proof to seal this statement once and for all. They dont follow Escort install procedures, their installs are not leveled as per install instructions. Also they install sensors with clear obstruction in front of lenses thus degrading by 80-100% overall performance and stating this is what client wants. Also they never tested their installs or they would know they work is sub-par and can punch through easily. Well then you tell your client you will not do the install at all because it will not perform as advertised. You dont take their money just caz clients asked for stealth behind the bumper/grille same thing obstructed sensor placement.

Just horrible service for high price being paid.

I just came back 2 weeks ago from asking for a quote on getting a system installed at FX Audio, Edmonton location. I was talking to a guy at the front desk who spent most of the conversation trying to school me on the ins and outs of radar and laser detectors. Then, he told me all about how some jobs were like >$10,000 (Porsche, etc.) and hinted I had better be ready to pony up for some big $$$. I mentioned a new brand detector from Taiwan and he had no idea, but that was when the owner came out (after over-hearing the conversation) with a picture on his phone of the device.
In frustration, I asked him to come out to my parked car and see how easy the install (in my opinion) would be. He said, "nope, we will put the receiver where WE WANT. I countered and said I had a tray in the console that would be perfect and then I was beat down (LOL) again with, "that is not a good place at all" (without seeing where).
I was flabbergasted. I left quickly and never looked back.

I have dealt with the owner's brother at another location and he is a fine guy and I understand that the FX Audio owner in Edmonton is very good guy with a top notch installer, Darcy, BUT the front help fellow I chatted with really sent me away. I have the skill and tools to do a fine job, just no heated shop, plus, need to stock up on A-535/Robaxecet (sic), not a kid anymore.

To be totally transparent, this shop does beautiful installs, really professional but it does cost. Going in I had no idea what a shop would charge and as mentioned, the rough quote would have been "a go"

Then the owner left. Again, despite my indicating I knew a few things, he went on and on as if I was a newb.
In frustration, I asked him to come out to my parked car and see how easy the install (in my opinion) would be. He said, "nope, we will put the receiver where WE WANT. BTW, the front help finally did give me a "rough quote" of $1500 for entire install which I would have accepted but after I got that door shut I couldn't make myself do it. I have the skill and tools to do a fine job, just no heated shop, plus, need to stock up on A-535/Robaxecet (sic), not a kid anymore.

To be totally transparent, this shop does beautiful installs, really professional but it does cost. Going in I had no idea what a shop would charge and as mentioned, the rough quote of $1500 would have been "a go" but, the conversation and the never ending schooling was too much for me. It is totally possible he was Darcy, I hope not.
That's unfortunate.

It's funny because the shop itself is nothing special to look at on the inside or out but they've built a rep for themselves for doing high end installs.

Guess it goes to some people's heads.

I think @System and @Heywood mentioned there some other decent installers around town.

Hey all,

Back on this subject now... Thinking I have done enough reading / video watching to tackle this. It might not be the prettiest, but if the pro's can't get it right either, why not save some $$$$? haha

In my last post I mentioned I was thinking of 3+2 but now when I'm getting ready to order, I wonder if that the 2 rear are actually necessary for me? I know Edmonton is big on getting you from bridges as you pass etc, but I have yet to see police in Calgary shooting from behind.

So now I'm thinking just 3, (1tx+2 reg for the front.) Anyone have any Calgary encounters to convince me otherwise?

I HEAR Canada does do REAR shots Lazer and even Dragon shots !! So you may not be that safe in the Future !!

If me ... 3 and 3.

Just sayin'

Once youre shot youve already PAID for the extra sensors AND since your rates go up AND you are on their Radar so to speak ... you will keep paying extra every single month thru higher insurance !!

A TICKET COST DOES NOT END AFTER YOUR PMT !!
