It's raining today and it's expected to rain all through the weekend. I'm hoping the rain clears up for a bit sometime so I can go out and do some road tests with the Spectre vs different detectors. In the meantime I'm doing some bench testing with the unit to see all sorts of different things. Let me know what ideas you have for things I can test with the Spectre in my living room and I can do it. :)

Important note: These tests may or may not be representative of what we see on the road. Some things are, yes, but putting a RD an inch away from RDD and having them both pointing forward is not the same thing as driving towards a Spectre from hundreds of feet away. Let's have some fun playing around, but please don't take these videos too too seriously.

As I conduct more tests, I'll update this post.

Test 1: Redline next to the Spectre for 10 min:

See if you can sit it for about 10 minutes near an M3 and see what happens ??
Result: No alert from the Spectre but the Redline goes off to Ka the whole time.

I ran the RL with X, K, KaSW on, RDR off to see if any of the scans would trigger the Spectre. It falsed to 33.8, 34.5, 34,7, and 34.9. Not a peep from the Spectre.

Here's the video. Basically just a quick intro and then a 10 min test sped up 8x.

Maybe a more nose to nose test would yield different results if any emissions are incredibly weak?

Test 2: Does turning off all bands on a V1 prevent Spectre detection?

Just wondering, If you turned off all the radar bands detection on the V1 and just left it with Laser Detection , would the Spectre detect it?
Result: Spectre still detects it. It does look like the Spectre's detection capabilities are reduced though so I'd like to actually try this one out on the road.

Test 3: Does turning off all bands on a Max360 prevent Spectre detection?

Result: Spectre still detects 360 will all bands disabled.

https://youtu.be/plVGG1IjEuw

Test 4: Uniden DFR7 and Spectre Elite side by side

Result: Uniden sets off the Spectre full tilt. Spectre falses the Uniden to 33.89 and 33.90.

Test 5: Redline vs. Spectre nose-to-nose test

Result:
The Spectre will occasionally go off within 1.5 feet but will only start going crazy at about 1-2 inches away. Really impressive performance by the Redline.

Wow. That's awesome! Now I know for sure the Redline is immune. At that space(never happening in practice) you're still good! Crazy.

Disabling the bands won't stop the LO from operating and on some it just mutes the alert. The only way to trim off the RD LO is to turn it off. Thanks for testing Vortex Reading this from the deck of a 1200 foot cruise ship ;)

If Redline horn faced the Spectre it would be alerted to within 1ft.
Repeat the same test with a Uniden DFR7, I would not be surprised with the horns in the same direction that the DFR7 would not set off the Spectre.

hm looks like it definitely does. Uniden falses to 33.89 when set right next to the Spectre.

I've been curious about this after seeing similar tests online so I'll do this next.
Thanks. Humor me and move the DFR7 2 or 3 inches further away. I had done this is the past with no alert with a separation of around 4-5 inches.

Just tried it and even over a foot away it was still getting a strong signal. Pointing it away from the detector helps and then all the directional stuff kicks in, so maybe we had different RD/RDD orientations? Either way, road tests are the main thing to see. This is just playing around while it rains outside. :)

I was getting up to 30 inches with the Redline and Spectre.

.

Does hitting a detector with radar so it is alerting change the distance the RDD can detect it? Example...My NetRadar (when close) will alert the Redline to Ka 34.2xx when I shoot a K band.

So... I am wondering , if you can run radar without alerting the Spectre if it effects the emissions from the detector.

hm I doubt it, but only one way to find out. :)

That sounds like overdriving. Shooting a radar gun super close to a radar detector can cause issues such as incorrect frequencies displayed.

I've added that to the list of tests to do. Shoot radar along with run the Spectre and see if that impacts the Spectre's ability to detect the RD.

It can be a distant weak K band too, if the NR alerts and if I am close to a vehicle in front of me I believe the NR horn leakage is bouncing back to the Redline...different topic of interference of course but it is what makes me wonder if detectors leak or emit more when they are locked on a signal and alerting than when they are in basic scanning mode.

The only time I have ever had the NetRadar false the Redline (segment 4) is when the NR is alerting to a signal.

....(BTW, I am not picking on the NR..I totally LOVE the NR!)

Great "fun" testing! Looking forward to the clear weather testing.
