I saw a trooper with 34.920 on my way to Poughkeepsie yesterday, it was north of the Ulster Service Area. Right around exit 21.

OUCH!!! I live in the area between exits 20 & 21.
Could have been the same vehicle you say a bit further north. This one was moving.

Well, It's been 1 month with seg #6 enabled and haven't seen anything out tune yet. No perceptible loss in detection range either so I'll keep it on.

I did see this posted on the ER forum and it adds to the mystery.......are these out of tune guns or some phenomena within the detector miscalculating the frequency? That is the question I have.

For me it was on the V1.

Yesterday I did get a 34.0 on an unseged Magnum, which later tuned into 34.6x about a quarter mile later... The V1 kicked in then as well at 34.6x

I wonder if you caught the front antenna when you were so close to the vehicle when the frequency changed. Front antenna is within specs while the rear is out of tune.

Its possible they are miscalculating the frequency, but the weird thing is that it is miscalculating with the same Local car with multiple detectors at different days/years. From one car with the Stillwater Police I get roughly the same spec readout with 2 Redlines, 2 Magnums, 2 Pluses, One Max II and One Stir-O - and my RX-65 missed this one in USA mode, but the RX-65 since been sold. This is an older Stalker and its in the 2nd car since I moved there.

When I run without segment 6 the Plus or O does not alert to the Stillwater gun no matter how close I get. I have also seen Leos besides this local car at different days or twice during the same day and I get the redline to alert in Segment 6, but no alert from the plus or the O.

I don't think there are a lot of the out of tune stalkers out there, but there seems to be a few, I wish there was a better way to test this when we see one as I don't think it is a frequency display item in all cases.

If it was a frequency display on the Escorts, I think we would hear a lot more about it from people in other states besides concentrated in NY, or it would be limited to a few odd units with an issues, but still in several states. With the number of Redlines, just on the board alone you would think that other people would have reported these anomalies.

That coupled with the fact that NYS does not require these radar units to be tested or calibrated requires us to consider all options until we can confirm one.

After reviewing my logs from my last trip, and reading the comments in the Northeast forum about out-of-tune encounters, I came up with the following custom sweep (based on Buz's great analysis and thread here: www.rdforum.org: V1 Custom Sweep Analysis (Deep Dive)). It focuses tight on 34.7 where all of my confirmed encounters were to maximize responsiveness, while also extending the wide sweeps out much further ("Extreme Fringe") to hopefully catch any out-of-tune guns that have been reported in the area.

This is my first pass at this so I'd be interested to hear any feedback or comments. I'll update in a few weeks once I get a feel for how it performs.

Edit: Here are the sweeps written out more clearly:

Well it's been more than a few weeks but I'm still running these sweeps and they are performing well.

I am looking to add a 34.7 gun to my collection so I can do some real testing, but I plan on sticking with these sweeps for the foreseeable future.

Guessing that radar unit got transferred from an older vehicle then, or at least hoping Stalker isn't sending out these units that far off..

One can only hope. If it's deliberate (to beat segmented RD's), it's a serious problem.

Edit: the Explorer from this weekend is probably out of F troop (Middletown HQ), but covers most of the western side of the mid Hudson valley.

I think your coming across old versions of Stalker ATR's that have been recycled to newer vehicles (cause we all know how cheap NY state is). Older stalker ATR's frequencies can operate between 34.2 to 35.2. Early models were fixed to either 34.700 or 34.940.

Not the Explorer last Friday. He was running rear antenna only, C/O. Not an ATR

Speaking of C/O rear antenna only, I'll pull a vid up showing that. Happens every once in awhile. At night, lights off, it IS SKETCHY.

are you kidding me........ wow.... I don't have my v1c module anymore so I have to reset my unit to default until I can re-do the sweeps with my friend

Was it highway patrol (NYPD) or staties?

He doesn't know. The signal was picked up in that area.

I just recently switched my R1 back to Ka Wide. Heading up to Lake George on I87 I came across a SP charger that showed as 34.938
I don't remember the exact area of 87. I'll have to check my dash camera when I get back from vacation. I'm pretty sure I was past albany when I encountered the out of tune stalker. I'll confirm it once I get back.

This is good to know, thanks. I hope Uniden will eventually work in some sort of segmentation.
