I just thought I'd pass along some stuff I learned recently. I figure someone with access may update the RDFGS. But a friend of mine is a Bexar County SO deputy, and I was talking to him a few nights ago about radar in their vehicles.

It turns out Bexar County has been ordering ALL their vehicles (and they're going almost exclusively Tahoes) with front and rear facing Stalker 34.7 Ka guns. Some run it blaring down the road, but he said he and most of the others he knows only flip it on when something interesting catches their eye.

Additionally, I can confirm that at least some of the Bexar County's Constables (separate from SO and separate from SAPD, essentially exist only to serve evictions and wrote tickets for "revenue"--and call themselves deputies) run K band still. Ran into one in a Tahoe on 90 this evening rolling with his K band wide open.

So far in my recent experience I have yet to see anything other than Ka (overwhelmingly 34.7) from SAPD. But I can't speak with any certainty as to what variances may exist out there.

A long time ago, like 10 years ago, with an old V1 (stolen later) I saw one of the ghost painted SAPD Crown Vics spouting a fountain of X band. It was the only one I had ever seen. Even back then I had thought about disabling X. These days it seems like it may be used for a few automatic doors but mostly seems to be emanating from big rigs.

So last night in Boerne I got hit by a white stealth Explorer running 35.5. I think it's the first 35.5 encounter I've had. A bunch of his marked buddies were out and about but all blaring 34.7 as usual. The stealth Explorer seemed to pass the time by doing circuits back and forth across the I-10 overpass on 46. Probably bored out of his mind.

This morning I saw a late-model royal blue stealth Mustang from the SA PD blasting 34.7 on 1604 and La Cantera. Yes he had a customer, and I was surprised to see such a vehicle like that that I hadn't seen before. I don't think it was the latest and greatest model Mustang but close and it wasn't the typical navy blue but a lighter royal blue. It was almost impossible to tell what it was a cop car at all.

I realize the RDFGS is still messed up, but when it comes back up can someone with access add a note for Helotes, TX (Bexar County) that they've got at least one Ford Explorer, regular marked unit, running 35.5?

Dear Texas Users-
Thank you for the information regarding SAPD and Bexar county constables but I have expertise in certain areas of San Antonio. Specifically I am talking about Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills and Olmos Park. Alamo Heights has 5 or 6 police cars that are seen regularly in and around the Alamo Heights area(Ford Explorers). They use exclusively K band and can be very sneaky about it. Their favorite hunting grounds are along Broadway because of the fast moving traffic. They will set up at night in parking lots and use C/O pretty regularly but a few of them are actually pretty smart and will blast you with a nice of dose of I/O. Another tactic is to drive along Broadway and New Braunfels and use I/O to hit speeders at nights. Because of the low crime rate Alamo Heights PD focus on teenage parties and speeders as their prey.

Olmos Park-
DO NOT EVER SPEED IN OlMOS PARK unless you want a ticket. I never drive in Olmos Park without a radar detector because they will pull you over for ANYTHING over the PSL. My friend the other day was pulled over and given a ticket for 2 over!! Olmos Park is such a small city that consequently, their police are very concentrated along the major roads throughout the small suburb. They use exclusively KA band. Because I try to avoid Olmos Park entirely because of their asshole cops I am not as familiar as I am with Alamo Heights PD. The few times I do drive through Olmos Park I have encountered C/O Ka band although I haven't encountered any I/O because again, I try to avoid that area all together.

1)In short be very careful along Broadway and New Braunfels and be aware of I/O K band because Alamo Heights PD is very active, especially at night. 2) Never speed or drive in Olmos Park without a radar detector.

PS: none of these areas use LIDAR.
I have had more encounters with these 2 departments than SAPD because of where I drive and work but I have found SAPD to be KA only. Strangely in Texas I have never seen laser, ever.

From,
Patrick @Deacon

I've seen laser but not for many years, and it was on 35 on one side of Waco or the other (like Hillsboro maybe). Houston guys talk about it, and I've heard legends of handheld laser being used downtown in SA shooting from overpasses down to lower levels of the split highways and sending chase cars after victims.

Shavano Park and Castle Hills can be just as bad as all those areas. But as long as you're not pulling some sort of Fast n Furious type silliness, I think you'll generally be fine with a decent detector in place.

Hurst, TX has at least one female officer in a Tahoe with laser. I've "met" her before.

Yeah, but I don't think it's being used much in the Bexar County or San Antonio area...

Got a face full of K-band today from a Bandera County SO Tahoe. It's weird because I don't think I've ever noticed a Tahoe before. They're usually all pickups.

Plano uses laser some, but generally only moto cops, and I haven't ever seen any on the highway or the toll roads in Plano (although I don't travel the toll roads that much). Allen supposedly uses laser, but I haven't seen it. I have seen laser used on 75 (Central Expressway) in McKinney near 121 by cops in Tahoes opening their door a crack and shooting backwards. And on the 75 access road north of 121 by moto cops. I have also been hit with laser driving south on 75 through Richardson from the Galatyn Parkway overpass on an early Sunday morning (when there isn't much traffic on Galatyn Parkway).

Ran into some intense K-band last night in Leon Valley. You could hear that thing for miles on the V1 even in my newly experimental "Quiet K" mode in Advanced Logic.

FYI it looks like Shavano Park has moved to Explorers running 35.5. Ran into a couple today.

aim4squirrels Hurst and Irving has K bands as well. They have all been C/O thankfully. I have also spotted C/O K in Corsicana as well.

Yes, Hurst, Bedford, Irving use K band in town. I've never seen it on a unit on the highway (161, 183, 121, or 820) those have all been Stalker

Fort Worth runs 35.5, Keller and Westlake (Westlake subcontracts law enforcement to Keller) run 33.8 the rest of the universe down here runs 34.7 that I've encountered.

I've only ever run into one I/O shooting cop down here ever. He's in Fort Worth and patrols the long arm of Fort Worth that extends east toward the airport. He's really over aggressive with it though. He I/O's every single car that comes by. Easy pickin's for a decent detector.

Saw a Bandera County cruiser (last generation Explorer, IIRC) in the Dairy Queen parking lot, hopped out and checked out what they were running:

Boerne PD runs K and Ka 34.7 mainly. We do have one 35.5 gun in an unmarked Ford we got from Kansas in some kind of swap....I dunno....anyway Kendall County Sheriffs are all 34.7 and sneaky as hell. Fair Oaks Ranch are the trap masters. K and Ka band but mainly K band. FOR will write you up for anything over PSL+4mph on FM3351. I kid you not.
Boerne PD favorite thing is leaving Boerne eastbound on Hwy46 they will sit there at the fairgrounds and shoot people right at the 45mph speed limit sign coming out of a 35mph zone as people are speeding up to 45mph. Bastards. It is all about safety right?
