I have a friend in Tucson who just bought a Redline... I want to know about the K band threat on the highways.

Rare, or common, or something in between. I have minimal experience in AZ as I only encountered Ka 34.7 on I-15 (Virgin River Gorge)

I did pass 3 Sheriff's around Achwatukke on I10 that were running K...I don't know if they have the jurisdiction of pulling you over or not but they can always radio ahead.

Not sure about Arizona, but I see lots of sheriffs running K band on the highway when I travel. MO, TX, KS, OK.

AZ radar on interstates is short range 35.5, 34.7....some k band but very light on K band radar. Depending on which route your friend chooses I -10, I-17,I40

Thru the Res K band is still used
Yeap Navajo still uses a **** ton on I 10 or especially if you take the Hollyoke exit. I still set my K to warn and will respond when it ramps up slowly as opposed to the Trucker level 9 K blast on my RPSE.

Pima County SO (Tucson-area) won't actively patrol along I-10, but that can and will be operating in the event they're enroute to a patrol area along I-10 or I-19.

They *will* actively patrol roads such as AZ-86 (Tucson-Ajo highway) outside of the reservation. Tohono O’Odham PD love lighting up the reservation.

A couple weeks back there was an older Pima county sheriff pickup truck shooting K band on Old Nogales highway near the casino. Was very surprised to see him using a K gun.

Navajo County definitely uses K band, at least as of last year. Only saw C/O though.

Troopers run 35.5, both pinal and pima county sheriff run 35.5 and ive seen pinal coutny patrolling the interstate. Cant speak on the K band.

Mesa, AZ has pole-mounted RedFlex -- low power radar, very hard to detect.

Two or three times a year, there will be a collision - mostly caused by the ±8000 people entering/leaving that aerospace corridor along Nogales Highway during the day.

Shortly after, PCSO was quite adept at a day or two - during prime commute times - of playing radar games...just to slow people down a bit. They don't camp out down there; remember just how much tax revenue that place generates. Don't want to p.o. *too* many executives at that establishment.

Every once in a blue moon - north of Los Reales Rd, Tucson PD motor units will also get in the game in that area.

It usually has to come from one or more complaints about speeds before they will actively send a traffic squad down that way.

This story hit the news today as well...

tucson.com: Road Runner: ‘Ghost cars’ used by Pima County and state DPS are tough to spot

Before you say entrapment, Sgt. Patrick Hilliker with the Sheriff’s Department’s Border Interdiction Unit notes that its new pair of vehicles are not in the primary motor pool.

They’ve been set aside for dangerous assignments, individually deployed to fight smugglers.

“It is just another tool for our unit’s ability to be able to interdict, disrupt and deter smuggling,” Hilliker said.
Uh-huh. So, they'll be on I-10, I-19, AZ-86, AZ-83, AZ-286, I-10 & I-19

Mmmmmkay.
