I had the F3 error too. Went away after a few days. But it was with 5.2.5, I haven't had it since upgrading to 5.2.6 :/

Check your connections. Do not do a reset on the system.

Is your ALP is telling you to check a particular sensor the thing to do is check that sensor. Clean the lens and inspect the wiring to make sure that overtime the connections from engine vibrations did not come loose and check wiring around sheet metal to make sure that wires did not get cut into. Firmware is doing its job by letting you know a particular sensor might be failing.

As I was heading out yesterday morning, I got a similar warning. Something about checksum failed, F3. I didn't have my tools or the time to check the cpu but after I drove the car in afternoon, I didn't get the warning. I turn off the system everytime I park and pretty much only drive once a week now. I'll try to double check the connections and cable later this week when I get some time.

Checksum error has to do with a loaded configuration file either being corrupted or out of date. You should not get an F3 with a checksum error. F3 is usually associated with a check sensor failure.

Thanks Tom, I don't really recall what it said initially. I know it said check something and definitely said the check F3 sensor. I must have saw checksum somewhere and thought in my head it said that.

So I initially received the warning message a few months back for a few days then everything started up fine without me doing anything. While I was away on my trip, I got the warning message again (video below). I went out to check the sensors and F1 and F2 were cool to the touch while F3 was warm/hot. I turn off the system whenever I'm parked and then turn it on when I'm on my way. After a day or two, I don't get the warning anymore so it seems like F3 is working fine again. Any clue to what this could be?

I just got the error “sensor checkout failure F3”.
I inspected all wiring and connections. All looks good. Sensors are clean and nothing has disturbed my truck (not even washed the entire truck unfortunately) in weeks. Does it mean the sensor connected to the F3 position in head unit has failed? What is needed?

Swap your #3 sensor to another port and see if the failure follows, if it does then you need to buy another sensor!!! Contact BRD, you can send your old one in and he will give you a reduced price on a new one!

Thank you for your info. Who is BRD? Do these sensors fail often? Seems a weak link if so. They appear sealed in epoxy. Mounting them is such a critical PITA - hoped they lasted forever

14:30 Amendment:

I verified the error followed the sensor cable by swapping it with F1 at the head. So please pm or post me the instructions to follow (to order a new sensor & obtain the discount you mentioned).
I need to expedite this replacement if possible. This cripples my protection while missing a sensor - so it is obviously critical.

Im disappointed in the lack of support I receive from ALP’s website when I try to reach support personnel there. I am not sure why. I am a customer that bought a substantial amount of system from them. I have purchased add-on components too and have an account.

Yet folks on this forum have readily helped me more than once - where no one from ALP did.
So I am thankful that there are people like you - that care enough to help, either by direction or sharing expertise - without delay.

Thank you!

To get the discount you will need to send the sensor to ALP include your email address and phone number in the package and they will send you link to purchase a new sensor on their website at a discounted rate. and I've had no issues with the folks at alpriorityusa.com (which is the exact same company as best radar detectors) if you press the number for service i usually end up talking directly to Tom, who is the owner and the expert on ALP. if needed give Tom a call and he can verify warranty status, and provide any troubleshooting or review the system logs if required to confirm a fault.

Edit:

I ordered a new sensor as advised. ALP has requested I send the damaged one to them so if I am lucky, I will get a replacement from them under warranty. Disappointing that one has failed in less than one year from installation. No cabling issues or visible damage. They are way too expensive and difficult to replace to have frequent failures. They are the best - but .......

Thanks for the help.

they don't fail that often, I had one fail after 5.5 years... so that failure is early. under warranty makes it easier as those are covered, out of warranty they will give you a discount though so thats nice. at least the system is smart enough to tell you there is a problem so you don't drive around thinking you are covered when you are not. BRD =bestradardetector.net=alpriorityusa.com BRD is on this forum as well as user "bestradardetectors"

Yeah, me too. Mine failed after 3 Years AND first error appeared right after FW update in April 2019 as well...

-- Double Post Merged: --
Judging by the number of threads even on the 1st page talking about head failures, I suspect we're in big trouble. These things don't last long and are extremely overpriced if they are to fail in 2-4 years. Considering many of us have at least 3 each....

Give me 10 years per 300 dollar head and i am content. Anything less than that should be addressed by the manufacturer. We did not pay 20 bucks for these things.... I understand ALP needs to make profit and recoup for research and design etc, but still, give us heads that don't fail in less than 5-10 years...
