Solidjake. I am locked out also. Maybe we need to be added to members list.

I am actively studying for General and have questions ham specific. I could sure learn from the more advanced members as as I still have issues with polarization.

Thanks

I see you got your directional antenna. Good luck with the group.

Did you try the link quoted above for the normal social group process?

On the study for the general note: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/ham-radio-podclass-2016/id941969630?mt=2
The General class stuff is more consistent theory and should hold up better to the new test.

I've been mildly motivated to start studying for the GROL+R again; in part from your going through the ham testing process.

I've been seriously thinking about getting my Technicians license this year. While be-bopping around the net today, I see there is a Swap and Shop at a local Amateur Radio Club north east of Pittsburgh on Sunday August 27th 2017. I thought I'd post this info just in case there was anyone from Western Pa. on the board that happened to be a Ham Radio operator that was looking for something to do on Sunday. I'm already planning on stopping up and getting some information from the Ham Radio community in the area.

Doesn't look like there's any VE testing there, but be sure to ask when the next session is, tech is attainable if you let it consume your free time every night for a week.

Videos with details to watch in the mean time.

And practice tests to drill drill drill.

Once you do it it's a few minutes of paperwork every 10 years to have it for life.

Thanks for the info. There's a test session about 15 minutes from my house on October 3rd

I'm hoping they're selling the ARRL manuals at Sundays swap. I hate buying from Amazon if I can avoid it.

If I can get the book or books on Sunday I should be ready by Oct.

I had a buddy in High School, Jack, who had his license WB3***. I looked him up and his license is still active.

Nice. I'm over 25 years myself. There were no VE3's when I got my license. Pleasure to meet you.

The only thing about this group is I feel it shouldn't be public as HAM callsigns can be looked up easily. Especially applies in banned areas.

Well Sunday was a bust as far as finding a new manual at the HamFest. There were plenty of ten and twenty year old manuals for sale. I never saw so much outdated junk equipment in my life. On the other hand there were a few really nice older units up for sale also. Since I didn't know what I was looking at and need to learn a lot about the hobby first I tried not to waste anyone's time asking newbie questions on them. On another note they were all very nice and friendly there but in observance it looked like a casting call for the Revenge of the Nerds the thirty year reunion.

Anyways I ordered my manuals from Amazon yesterday,

[IMG] The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual

[IMG] Technician Class 2014-18 FCC Element 2 Radio License Preparation

I went through the Eham practice exam and missed eight of them so that was passing on that test. Looked through a few other practice exams online I found and there is so much I don't know on the rules and regulations of Amateur radio. I'm going to have a busy month ahead of me studying for this test on Oct 3rd.

Thanks Doppler for the link to the Ham College Youtube channel, they highly recommended the Technicians Class License Preparation manual as a study guide.

I believe I read something from Xyd that he's working on making the Social Group system better with the transition to XenForo.

I hoped to have a lot more done by now, we are getting hit pretty hard by the remnants of the storm... We're under 4 flash flood warnings, a river flood advisory, a high wind advisory... Oh and a flash flood watch. You would think that 4 warnings would overrule a watch but who the hell knows.

It's 2017 and the power here still goes out when there are heavy storms... I really wish I was still in MA, they know how to deal with bad weather.

Posted from my Galaxy S8 using an app we should really get rid of sooner than later...

I remember your pix from the Braintree Apt. windows when you were hiding out from that snowstorm. Couldn't see your car buried down in the parking lot.
I'm curious - did you ever see any of the old chairs/TV's/garbage cans, etc. used as "space-savers" for shoveled-out curb side parking in Boston that I warned you about ?
Did you ever move one & take a parking spot ?
Was your car damaged for doing so, if you did ?
