Re: V1Driver iPhone/ios BETA Project - Version 1.29 is in Apple REVIEW

Just installed 1.32. This app just is amazing and keeps getting better every day! I never knew how much I would appreciate having Savvy.

Speaking of Savvy, can the set speed input be a slider so it's a little easier to change? For example when going from highway to local roads, it can be dangerous to change it from 55 to 30 and I hope for a red light to make the change. A slider that ticks up and down in 5 mph/kph would be great. Heck, put this slider on the main screen since it's probably going to be used often.
When I'm in extremely heavy freeway traffic with lots of BS signals, I'll bump savvy to psl or even 5 over which could be as high as 70-75 mph... You wanna talk about quiet!

Re: V1Driver iPhone/ios BETA Project - Version 1.27 is in Apple REVIEW

I assume you mean the compass arrow on the top status bar. Mine is always on. And I don't do all that much.
But I must have 4-6 apps that list "location -> always" and background. Dropbox, Waze, etc. If you have any app that does this I think the arrow will be on.

Some apps that don't really need location use this mechanism to periodically wake Themselves.

You can read about this here. https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/209

So when disconnected from V1 it should use about the same battery as dropbox (idle, not uploading pics).
When connected to v1 it will use the same as a Nav app and depend if you have screen on and foreground or not.

Even when connected to v1 and in background it's quite good on battery. At least on a 6s plus it is.
My Compass arrow is always on even after I have closed the app. Don't know if this is a bug or not because all of my apps that are set to "always" when the app closes, the compass arrow goes away. Waze is one of those apps that come to mind. Another thing that I noticed is that you use the word savvy in your app. I know that the app is in its beta stage, but was unsure if using one of Valentines feature names (Savvy) within the app could lead to some kind of litigation. Just a thought.

I'll check with Valentine before release. Thanks for the heads up. I may change the name because my Savvy will be more Savvy ;)
Also note that there is a "Savvy" interface in the Public API.

I uninstalled the V1Driver and rebooted my phone and the Arrow is On. I don't have all that much on the phone. Waze, GoogleMaps, DropBox. But I do enable the Find My Phone thingy etc.

I just started testing a Wiped iPhone 5 today. If I have everything hooked up and V1Driver in Background and pull the plug on V1 the Arrow goes out. Plug the V1 back in and the arrow comes up.

I do keep "SignificantLocation" changes enabled when disconnected from V1. This is VERY course. This was added early on and may not be needed. But I don't plan on changing that until I learn more or get more data.
Only because it's working really good. i.e. don't fix what ain't broke.

I appreciate the feedback and will keep an eye on that.

Re: V1Driver iPhone/ios BETA Project - Version 1.27 is in Apple REVIEW

I think it was the first morning (i.e. Monday) that I ran the V1Driver when I got trapped for 1/4 mile behind a Cadillac that left a line of pins. I deleted "all records" but now I do not see pins for Ka hits even though my settings are virtually identical (except for 2 Hits to AutoMute) to those in the OP. This morning's KA hit was from behind me if that makes a difference.

So what might I be doing wrong? I did get a pin for a K false this morning.

So you're running with TMF and BSM filters off, improving K band sensitivity then let Savvy and the K band auto-mute setting in V1connection do the rest?

Is Ka Automute enabled in V1Driver? Maybe it doesn't map those when it's not.

Battery for the last 24 hours: 8% (16 minutes on screen - no background time shown)

Re: Looking for iPhone Beta Testers for new App !!

Have only run with the program twice, after getting it this morning. 1st impressions are nice! ... And thanks for the add to the program.
As I figure out how I want to tinker with my settings I have a few thoughts.
1) Is it possible / do you plan to allow for fixed/adjustable zoom on the map? to keep it from auto adjusting?
2) Saw someone else had mentioned a national database. An older program/hardware created for the V1 (RadarActive, now defunct) did this and it was helpful... probably more so here if logged/tracked as a fixed site signal. I only had 1 or two other people in my area that had the device/program but was an extra layer of protection that, within the last X hours, there was a Ka band source detected and reported along my route further than my detection range.

Cant wait to keep using this though... I am an info whore and while the LE allowed to see the freqs... I was never good about being able to record them and keep better track about what is in my area.

Basically.. All I have is Tmf 1 but I don't have it activated.
I don't really see an issue with using it in such congestion since ultimate K range is not the objective then because I honestly don't want to know about every K signal for miles anyway but I do like the mindless "set it and forget it approach.

I rarely touch savvy either but in a pinch it works great.... Especially since it resets itself bad to my normal setting if I restart V1, or the car so if implemented in this software I recommend a similiar self reset feature.

No. As mentioned earlier, I have the same settings as in post #1. Why would Ka Automute make a difference?

I know @mswlogo said if a signal is detected and you're traveling below the set Savvy speed it will not mark it on the map. Maybe the same applies if a band is not set to automute in the settings.

Re: Looking for iPhone Beta Testers for new App !!

if you, for example, have Ka off and in the presence of Ka signal and it then sees a potential K false it will not process it.

This is less complex (read less bugs) but can take a little longer to learn.

---------- Post added at 10:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:46 AM ----------

Keep in mind the way the apple reports battery.

If say, it says v1driver used 10% battery over last 24 hours but you only used 20% of the battery over last 24 hours then v1driver only used 2% of your battery over the last 24 hours.

So listing v1driver % usage by itself is "unitless"

So saying v1driver used 6% could be extremely low or very high depending on how much the battery was depleted over that time.

That's exactly what it does do and already available.
You can also tap the message saying you've overridden the value and it will instantly reset to your normal value

Someone asked about map keeps centering while browsing.
If there is no V1 connection the map won't keep recentering itself.

I plan to do a lot more work on the map.

I finally set Ka to AutoMute and this morning a Ka alert showed up - as 19 pins. I exited the turnpike for Route 66 (4 lane with median) and a state trooper came off the opposing ramp so I stayed with PSL since he was running C/O behind me for 1.5 miles.

Re: Looking for iPhone Beta Testers for new App !!

A couple more ideas I had for the app:

1. The slider for Savvy on the main screen (v1.33) is very helpful. Would it be possible to add it to the Notification drop-down as a widget? This would, for example, save the steps of switching out of Waze, into V1Driver, make the Savvy change then back to Waze.

2. (this one might be tough) I believe there are open databases with PSLs for the US. If those databases could be used to auto set Savvy for a 'user-configured speed' above the PSL for that road, now we're talking killer feature. Example: I'm traveling on a road with a 35 PSL and I've configured Savvy to auto set 10mph above the PSL. The app auto-sets Savvy to automute anytime I'm below 45mph and I didn't touch the app. Like I said, this might be tough and I have no idea what would be involved in adding something like this but it would be nice feature.

I've looked into PSL db's and have not found anything public. Widget is a good idea. I hope to eventually put up a bug reporting system and users can vote for features/bugs they want to see done.

Yeah, I think I was more optimistic of an open db based on a quick Google Search. That's a drag. There is Google's API which I'm sure you've seen but it does have limits before it starts charging. Oh well...

Black = New, Red Learning, Green = Locked

---------- Post added at 10:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:11 AM ----------

I think I figured out an easy way to integrate Savvy Hardware and will be in the next release.

There are two new options for this.

One is letting V1Driver know you have the Savvy Hardware (I can automatically detect this later, need to buy hardware)
The 2nd is to use the Speed from Savvy Hardware instead of GPS. This is unlikely to work first time without hardware to test.
If you do have savvy hardware you'd always want this option on too. But because I can't test it I made them both options that default off.
When all debugged both these options will probably go away.

If it does all work the savvy settings in V1Driver will be sent to Hardware Savvy.

But the first option should work, and assumes the speed of GPS is close to the Speed of Hardware Savvy.

My testing is going well. Many of my usual falses are turning green. So far, so good.
mswlogo Did you notice the Savvy slider can go negative?
