Thanks. I got the email invitation from him so now I need to check TestFlight since Vortex has already installed the app. So, hey Vortex, where is the installation video already!! :)

Does the TestFlight invitation code come by email or is it pushed through other means?

You'll get an email and if you enable notification on the your iPhone for TestFlight, you'll see it there too.

Exactly. You are on the right track.

I'm balancing how much info it records to get a feel how it performs and scales. So far it's very fast with modest info recorded and limited database size. But that might not be the case on older iPhones.
I'm going to artificially stuff the database and see how it performs.

I could have a "History" of settings and each hit just has a pointer to the settings in play when that hit was collected. That would be super efficient but a fair amount of work.

It's all doable space wise and efficiency wise. It's all a matter of a good schema. And a bunch of good code to go with it.

Right. Think of the "TestFlight" app that you have to download onto your phone as your private "App Store" for Betas. Well don't think of it as being that, it is :)

---------- Post added at 12:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------

Keep in mind it's a two step process. Once you accept iTunes Connect. Then I have to add you to the App as a Tester to get the invite on the app.
Once on iTunes Connect I think you can pull the app.

Ignore "V1Driver Junk" App. It's an early attempt to get it into iTunes Connect and it refuses to let me delete it.

---------- Post added at 12:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ----------

I was thinking of just updating my signature and seeing how long it would take folks to notice ;)

mswlogo A few questions: are you storing the data in the cloud or on the device? Is the data identifiable? Would you consider making the code open-source? Anytime I give an app GPS permissions, these thoughts cross my mind. Thanks!

I forget the exact parameters but one way Franky combatted that was to have an app radius "I think bigger than lockout radius" that followed or rather traveled with the driver so as to ignore the whole database except the portion at hand nearby. This way it wasn't scanning through lockout fatabasey locations 50 miles away "and beyond" since all that really matters is what's local.

Re: Looking for iPhone Beta Testers for new App !!

Code will stay private for now.
Data is only stored on the phone.
If you uninstall the app, poof the data is gone.
I will tell you it records GPS location and Date. It's kind of obvious if you tap on a Pin in the Map.

I was thinking of allowing user to optionally mirror it to iCloud for backup purposes.

I could optionally toss the Date once learned for more privacy security.

I was already thinking of a "Cleanup" pass over the data that the user can initiate or automatic by time to remove all un-matured hits older than a certain time.
These will build up over time due to BSM/CAS system hits. Oh and real Leo hits too. Auto UnLock should normally clean these most of them.

Thanks for info. Backup to iCloud would be great. Tossing the old data once learned also sounds ideal. I just installed the app; can't wait until 5PM!

How difficult would it be to make to work with Versions lower than 9.2 and do you have a target price planned for once it's launched ?

It's a fairly obvious problem when you start thinking about it. It's a fun problem.
I have other ideas that I think will be better than "regionalizing it". Because you can end up with a tight area with many hits too. Data will be very unevenly distributed density wise w.r.t. to location.
I'm not showing all my cards just yet ;)

---------- Post added at 02:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ----------

Might not be too difficult. But 9.2 can run on phones as old as 4s (not that some users may want too).

I figure most folks that have iPhones and modern V1's probably don't carry even iPhone 4s's around.

There may be reasons I'm unware of folks don't wish to run 9.2.

I'm using the latest features available. Some, I believe require 9 or later. If I start going backward then I have to test all those platforms too.

Yes, I have a Target Price in mind. It changes every day.

I want this to be successful. The more successful it is, the more features you'll get and I have quite a few planned, including an iWatch implementation, which could be very slick.
Could be a Joke too but I plan to take a crack at it.

It is part hobby, part gaining ios development experience for other projects I have in mind, and part I would like to make a little money on it.
It's a tricky business making money on an ios app especially one that is this specialized. I've already invested like $5k.

So timing what features I release when and for how much is tricky.

I'd love to release it sooner and incrementally add features and reward early adopters by just letting them upgrade forever and raise the price as I go. But I've read that can kill an app.
How I release it for trial is not sorted either. I hate how you can't return an App as easily as you can on Android.

Some say put all bells and whistles on first release. But that could take a while.

We are in the 1 Visit to Dunkin Donuts - 1 Visit to Starbucks range.

I do want to make a release by May 1st. So it depends on what I can get in by then, how testing goes, how feedback goes, what features are done and stable and what is a fair price by then.

---------- Post added at 03:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:20 PM ----------

Keep in mind that since all the beta testers are on the "Development" team right now, I suspect if you dig through iTunes Connect you can find each others email address.

If you want to be removed at any time let me know.

Beta approval is still "Pending". I don't know how strict they are on Public Beta (Called External). Currently you are on basically a "Private" Beta (called Internal). Which doesn't need any approval by Apple.

I won't share your emails with anyone.

There are about 10 of you now and a limit of 25 (Internal)

I've read once you release to Apple store it can take 7-10 DAYS for each release !!

---------- Post added at 04:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:54 PM ----------

Just a reminder I won't be available much for adding beta testers or finishing up pending ones over the weekend.

I'll be at the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival fiddling my brains out :) That takes priority over everything.

I need to keep my brain clear of this stuff. It's really hard switching gears.

Sorry if this frustrates, but if you had something that would go to my Apple Watch I would pay for it now. I am increasingly getting away from mounting my iP and going by what I get on my Watch. Of course when I am running Escort 360 with EL that is not too limiting.

It does not frustrate.

The basic App doesn't need to be Viewed at all. It's just informing you mostly why it did or didn't mute. To build your confidence in what it's doing for you and you have it set up the way you want.
It is not meant to be your interface to the V1. That stays the same as no iPhone.
I'm considering the watch as an additional "Mini" remote console. It would probably just Pop a Big K/Ka and Arrow and you could manually mute the watch instead. Or if you gesture to read it, it just Mutes right then. It knows you confirmed looking at it.

It would be cool to have the watch as a "discrete" use case when you have guests in you car that might be annoyed with any bleeps. You can turn the V1 down and just get pulsed on your wrist :) Say on a hot Date or a Business Trip with Colleagues.
It is independent of the Main Function of Auto GPS Lockouts and Savvy. It should be very easy to do. Not sure what kind of Lag time there is with the watch though. Both for the Alert and Manual Mute.

You could also do some cool tricks. Like have it turn Savvy Down as your Heart Rate goes up !! Or should it do the reverse? (think Hot Date vs Pedal to the Metal).

I bought the watch for this project to get a feel for it while I develop the App. I really like the watch and didn't expect to.

+1 for the Apple Watch. That would nice addition.

---------- Post added at 06:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:50 PM ----------

First run observations (just what I saw on a brief, 20 minute ride):

• US needs an Imperial setting for distance and MPH; I know, when will the US switch to Metric...
• The map view was swinging wildly for a while when I first started rolling. It looked like it was in Compass mode and couldn't get a fix on my heading. After a while it appeared to switch out of Compass mode (North up). My iPhone is in a mount angled at 45* from vertical. I tried angle it as close to vertical as I could which seems to slow the swinging but not entirely.
• I only had 3 false alerts: 2 X band and 1 K band all at the same time. The X band alerts appeared first then the K mixed in. However, the K was not mapped in the app. Could the X alert be the reason?
That's it so far. Come Monday when I run my daily/weekly routine I'll be able to add more and confirm what I saw today.

Re: Looking for iPhone Beta Testers for new App !!

All Testers are now switched to Official Beta Testers. You no longer need a iTunes Connect account and those accounts are deleted.

There was 2 in Limbo that never created their account and it won't let me delete or cancel. Those 2 are BetaTesters now.
I believe all you have to do is install TestFlight and login with your Apple ID and you'll have access to the App. You are logging into Apple system. Not me.

You will have got a new invite for the Application. But it's the same Version.

Re: Looking for iPhone Beta Testers for new App !!

Currently I have no issue with unlimited beta testers, especially now that it's in true "Apple" Beta, there is essentially no limit.

You do not have to "Report In" to beta test or anything like that. But if something does go wrong please let me know. PM or Post is fine.

I sure would feel more comfy adding more beta testers if I knew things were going smooth with the app.

I know some of you have ordered dongles.

I have tested it a lot, but that was with mostly artificial hits with my own K gun and lots of database wipes.
One good friend has been running it side-by-side with each release and he has no guns and thinks it's working great.
He is very technical but he is new to how Auto GPS lockouts should be working.

As discussed above you can artificially lower the criteria to speed things up (which is also how I did 99.9% of the testing).
So that might be bad advice because it needs real world settings tested too. My buddy has been using the default settings.

I'm finding the low speed muting works well. It'll take some time for the lockouts to all take of course. :)

I can't start testing until the Monday morning commute as I drive my wife's car on the weekends plus her Max1 just got a firmware update.

Im in. This would be perfect since I only have the TMF1 V1. Let me know if you still need more beta testers.
