Came upon this GSP rocking the CO K band behind a customer that was having a really bad day.

It's rare, but it's out there.
Man that's sucks I drive on 285/400 and getting lot of K band but those are most of the traffic sensors on 400 by the way thanks for sharing, need to get my cam install. ...

I've seen them turn on their radar when on a stop like this.

but I've never actually seem them using it for traffic patrol.

I would bet 99% chance he pulled this guy over with laser and then turned on the radar.

It's entirely possible, still don't like seeing units installed and transmitting. Means they're out there just sitting in hold mode... waiting.

I gotta say that "rare" scares me. I would rather it be a lot, or none at all. Makes it easier to prepare for. There's still a ton of K band here.

Is that to develop tracking history?

K band is all over GA, I find it's more common with State police than Ka. My local dept is K band and use laser on the interstate.

I just saw a K band yesterday from one of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Dodge Chargers. It was off of 575 near Ballground. He was sitting in a business just chillin.

K's far from rare in WA state. In fact I'd venture to say I run into it more than Ka around here.

In fact our local PD is dispatching new cruisers and they even use K band. I wonder if they're moving equipment out of dated cruisers into the new ones?

That would be my guess. Municipalities are all strapped for $$$. I think most counties are as well. Having the equipment that works properly moved means less $$$ they have to spend on new equipment.

I too have seen this quite frequently. Look at all that traffic, they can't reliably use K band (doesn't mean they won't) unless it's way off peak hours.

I've encountered rolling IO K band by GSP in the past outside the perimeter, so they definitely have it on some cars.

Why would he do that?
I have seen it done quite a bit. I figure it is to at least slow down RD users that come flying up on them while they work a stop, and maybe even give them a false sense of security as they see CO radar in 'use'
