So this happened today... I was opening up the Max360 sticky cup and I must have pushed the latch back too far because the whole thing exploded on me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrPAEuiFn4E

Luckily we were able to get it put back together again (thanks guys! lol...) so we could continue testing, but I was surprised. Never had this issue before with any sticky cup, though I have seen someone else report the issue here. Once it was put back together again, it was good as new.

There were a couple guys working on it while I was messing with someone else, so if you guys could share the trick to putting it back together, that'd be awesome. I know a screwdriver was involved. :p

I have only had mine a week but it did the exact same thing. Luckily there aren't many pieces and it only took me minute to figure out how to get it back together. Hardest part was finding the spring on the passenger floorboard.

I should have asked you this while I was there, but is this the new-model sticky cup, or the old one?

Should go like this. Suction cup with post, set the spring on top of the post, slide the plastic "top" piece on top of the spring, compress all of them while you force the lever back onto the post. You will see some indentions on the "lever" that match up to the post. Be careful not to get a spring in the eye or have it shoot out and get lost.

Is this the only thing about the Max360 that doesn't "suck" sometimes?! Hehehe. Total joke there, don't worry.

I had the same issue the day I received my M360. The mount exploded and would not stay together. Every time I would latch it to the window it would explode. What I ended up doing was not using the spring and inserting small folded pieces of paper into the slots on the mount latch. This kept the tongues from spreading at the "hinge" and held up for 30 days until I put it back together like normal and returned my M360. It held up to moving between cars multiple times, so if you're desperate my "fix" is an option.

The issue happens when you pull the latch downwards at a slight offset from its centerline. You weaken the latch tongues, or whatever you want to call them, which can require a new mount like in my case. It's annoying and seems to be a bit of a design flaw because multiple users are having the issue. It's self induced by how you apply force on the latch when securing it to your window, but the thing should be strong enough to allow some room for error.

Better make sure your stickycup isn't offset a few degrees, but if it isn't perfect pull the latch straight down relative to its radial centerline. If you pull straight down and your stickycup is slightly rotated you're in for a potential explosion

For putting it back together I just used my hands. A screwdriver could help avoid further damage to the hinge area because you can use a little more finesse rather than brute force. I didn't use the spring to avoid additional tension on the hinge during the latching process since my mount was toast without the paper inserts.

Well, at least the detector didn't come apart like past ones. I guess that's something. Hope it stays together for you.

This is the newest one. Oddly enough, I don't think I've ever heard of this issue pre-Max360. That's not to say it wasn't an issue with earlier models too though.

Dang - the next thing will be an addendum to the owner's manual - eye protection required when mounting, re-mounting or adjusting mount.

There are different versions of the sticky cup? Or is there a different version for the 360? Never had an issue with my RL, though I haven't tried the newer one they shipped after my Magnum upgrade.

I tried the sticky cup but my RD seemed loose so I went back to the regular suction cup. Being in the south we do not have the cold issues as in the north.

To solve the issue on this explosion sticky cup, is to use the standard 2 suction sticky cup until escort decides to revise it. I seen veil guy using it on his videos. Looks pretty sturdy while he driving. Maybe they will make one like it magnetic.

So it happened to me again today.

I was trying to loosen the knob on the side of the sticky cup and was pressing down on the 360 a bit to get my hand back there. The whole mount broke apart while I was sitting at a stop light. The latch popped off and the detector fell off my windshield. I was in a bit of a rush and didn't have time to pull over and figure out how to put everything back together again, so I drove with no RD going. I was not too pleased...

Luckily when I stopped, I was able to get it back together again very easily.

This is kinda ridiculous...

It really sucks that the "flagship" model is such crap quality. Recently a friend of mine had his passport oled screen start to malfunction and only showed grey color anymore. He sent it in for warranty fix and I lent him my spare detector. (Max 1) After a weeks use he asked me why it falses KA to acura's, etc. And also noticed the bouncy mount and felt the screen was harder to see than his newer passport. I explained the numerous downfalls of the "Max" lineup. Needless to say, he was happy to have his passport back :D

Mine blew up again as well. I just used the standard mount. Ill have to reach out to escort next week for a replacement.

I know it's the mount and not the detector, but it still makes it a hard endorsement when a company steps out there with the most expensive RD and it has all these "little" issues. It should be flawless if they're willing to say their equipment is worth the high costs.
