For comparison, the pictures are courtesy from an old V1 post... not from me. uploadfromtaptalk1445475398411.jpeguploadfromtaptalk1445475420674.jpeguploadfromtaptalk1445475428963.jpeguploadfromtaptalk1445475436078.jpeg

Nice! Well done.

The horn looks the same as the Max2 I have opened up right now.

The rear horn being in the center of the arrows would explain the bubble in the middle of the arrows. That bubble is the condenser lens then.

Can you open it up further? You'll need a Torx screwdriver (size T8) to proceed.

The Max2 also has a PCB sandwich like that, those though PCB's just pop right apart. The 360's is held together with some screws.

The horn itself should also simply be a few Torx screws and we can see the inside of the horn and the RF components.

Hell yeah, you're the man Kasher! It looks cheapish in design compared to the V1, but I'm not a EE.

I was expecting a new a laser sensor with the front horn cover being so large. Nope. At this rate I'm going to not even see my unit because the order wont make it

Ok anything else you wanna see. I'm gonna close her back up.

"M6" huh? I see the same SPARTAN class FPGA as the Max2, as well as the exact same Freescale Cortex M4 DSP (100MHz) as shown in @Vortex's teardown.

But you know what they say... https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Magic+Keyboard+Teardown/50995 if it's powerful enough for a keyboard, it's powerful enough for a radar detector.

(Wait what? There's no such saying?)

(Same LIDAR sensor design. Apparently 300 posts' worth of stomping and screaming about the Max/Max2's LIDAR inferiority to the Redline fell upon deaf ears)

Thanks Kasher! @jdong is better at ID'ing components than I am (@Nine_C1 too) so they'll give us a better idea of what's going on. :)

I'm sitting here holding the Max2 horn up against the photo of your Max360 horn and they look the same... dimensions, angles, tapers, and so on. Towards the back of the horn it starts to get different to things like where the screw placement is, but the horn dimensions themselves look to be the same.

Ok I have basically broken everything down on it and taken pics. Nothing left unrecorded. Gonna close her back up now.

I read somewhere that you're supposed to say a nice thing, a mean thing, and then a nice thing. So the nice thing is: Given that the digital part of the detector looks identical (not just similar in spirit + upgraded parts, exactly identical), it does mean that Escort can maintain software updates for the Max, Max2, and Max360 in parallel without much work.

That can be good but it can also be bad...is there hope for the Max/Max2, or is there no hope at all for the Max360?

Actually, if it's not too late, can you do another photo of the inside of the horn assembly? Something a little straighter would be good. I'm gonna compare the inside of the Max2 and the Max360 side by side. :)

If not, that's cool. I can use that shot too.

So from a quality standpoint what do you think? What do you think compared to the V1's older internals, major difference in potential? Obviously the Max has a neat FPGA.

Looks way overly complicated for the performance it delivers.
