Radenso – Enthusiast designed, enthusiasts driven

Trying to live up to our new slogan I would like to engage you guys in our Firmware development.
There is a whole bunch of things that I would like to see implemented but I am sure there is more that you have on your personal wishlist.
Most of it was expressed by members here and I added them to my list. Some of the requested features have already been implemented so I removed them from the list.

So I am going to start this new Firmware thread and I also want to create a firmware log on our homepage that outlines the specifics for each firmware revision.
One thing I have been discussing is the availability to upload different firmware for more user-specific application.
For example, if you travel exclusively in California and 34.7 is your only threat, we could tweak performance on 34.7 a bit by making changes to sweep scheme even if this is causing a performance decrease on 35.5 or 33.8 or K band.
Or we could have a version that only comes with Ka and K band and no X band.
Uploading a different firmware is as easy as plugging in a headphone in your iPod.
The other thing we were talking about is making all firmware versions available for download so people can go back to an earlier version if desired.
Lots of things are possible.

Obviously, the user needs to know what he is doing but with Enthusiasts I don’t see this to be an issue.

We would ship out the unit with a firmware that meets the expectations of every user and the few of us who are driven to tweak out a bit more performance will have the option to download a different firmware version. Call it a regional firmware or so.

Would that be a good idea or would that complicate things too much?

Another very interesting and probably most desired function we have been discussing is AutoTune. Since the detector is equipped with GPS an automatic switch to a different setting could be integrated based on the GPS location. Windstrings was referring to something like this already yesterday in a different thread.
The detector would constantly check the actual location vs. a database with GPS coordinates. If one for example travels in California a strong Ka performance is all that is needed but when traveling through Ohio a more balanced setting considering all 3 radar bands and laser is needed for optimum protection. The detector would know the location (state, county, city) and could adjust automatically to what is needed in the area of actual travel and switch on/off certain radar bands or even frequency segments, change sweep schemes, activate TSR, activate or deactivate RLC database etc. Lots of possibilities.

Here is a list of features that I requested to implement by Firmware updates: (I removed the features that have been implemented already)
I am sure by the end of next month this will be 3 times as long and will keep my friends busy for a long time…:)

#TopicDescriptionStatus
1Frequency displayThe frequency is displayed as a center frequency only. Users prefer the display of the actual received frequency to better distinguish between real and false signals.
2Laser detectionThere are currently 4 laser guns that are not reliably being detected:
Laser Atlanta Stealth Mode
TraffiPatrol XR
Laser Ally
Dragoneye Compact
It would be a nice feature to identify the Laser gun or display the pulse rate
3BSM FilterImplement a K Band filter for Blind spot mirror and Lane assist rejection that does not affect detection range.
4BSM Manual lockoutIn order to eliminate potential false alarm following a car equipped with BSM a manual, temporary signal frequency lockout is desired
5GPS LockoutsImplement GPS lockouts based on location AND signal frequency. If the signal does not match saved frequency the detector will alert to the new signal. Current lockouts are a bit unstable and locked out areas are being alerted to sometimes. Lockouts seem to be directional and currently requires 2nd lockout from opposite direction. Also, storage for lockouts should be increased from current 400 limit to 10,000
Entry and exit of lockouts should be reported with a brief single beep. Shorten time needed to lockout a signal (currently 3 seconds
6RLC alert MutingCurrently it is not possible to mute a RLC alert. Implement manual RLC muting
7Multiple threat displayOnly one alert with highest priority is being displayed . It would be great to have the capability to display at least one additional alert when 2 or more signals are being received simultaneously as well as a total threat count (number of signals received). The current alert priority selection is ok
8Firmware versionIs it possible to display current FW version in Menu or at start up? Currently it is a bit difficult to determine what FW and GPS database has been uploaded
9Volume too lowThere are complaints that the alert volume is too low. We should increase the volume levels and allow higher volume settings
10AutolearnImplement Autolearn option for automatic muting of false alert locations and known frequencies.
11AutoCity SpeedThe second speed setting in Autocity Mode does not allow to set a speed limit below 40 mph. This should be changed to 25 mph

So please comment, add or remove things and keep the discussion going…:)

Thanks for listening to us, I know we can be difficult to please sometimes! These are the most important of those to me!

1. I would love to know the actual frequency to determine falsies and if it's IO from the same cop ahead, but keep announcing the centered frequency and not the exact with the audio alert.

2. Identifying the gun would be very useful!

6. Locking out RLC alerts would be good. I drive on a freeway and get an alert to a RLC on a frontage road every day.

7. I don't necessarily need to see all of the alerts, but doing the tone like the V1 or like the Redline when it says "multiple threats detected would be nice.

10. Auto learn for false alerts would be great for putting it in my parents' cars. They need more of a set it and go detector.

Thanks for your thoughts. Autolearn I won't touch though. It is a patented feature from Escort. I crossed it out in my template but the cross out did not show up when copying the table into the thread...:(

I think your idea for custom f/w based on location or user preference is a great idea for enthusiasts.:) It may cause some headaches with support, however.

You could make the detector actually show on screen the real duration of a radar and laser alert. All of the detectors have several seconds of a trailing alert. You could make the detector to show on screen when the signal is present or not.

Okay, the location based firmware idea is way too cool.

That is an impressive list Hügel66

This thread should be a sticky under Radenso section so it is readily and easily seen by all.

I'm excited for this firmware to roll out. Looking forward to its release and the expansion of this product. Loving it so far. With the mentioned updates, it will only improve.

Great stuff!

+1 on the suggestion to lock out RLC's particularly the ones we typically pass along highways.

Several scanner companies have GPS based locational services already. So this is doable. Great idea. Can it be implemented ?

Would it be it more informative if the two sounds (entry and exit) were different to each other in some way?

Got a good one.

voice alert with direction IE KA NE

The compass works extremely well.

Please implement an option to disable voice alerts. I would rather hear a smooth ramp up of an alert rather than have the 'beeps' at S5 already by the time the voice alert ends.

Have a firmware configuration tool so users can put in the features they want without going over whatever the firmware storage limit is, like it was claimed happened with the magnum.

How would that work when one drives a few thousand miles from their base?

I agree, I hate hearing the slow voice telling me what I already know at the expense of rampup.. One reason I love my V1 vs 9500ix.

Also need to see rampup whole visualizing freq.. Maybe radenso does this but 9500ix does not unless you enable the tiny almost worthless vertical bars.

If you are planning a long trip, you just flash to the non-location-based version before you leave. Than flash back when you get home.

I added this request to my list. Keep in mind that you can disable voice alerts by switching from Frequency display to Bar graph display. Only while in Frequency mode the frequency is also announced by voice (which was a user requested feature)

Actually, this was something we discussed. Instead of having (patented?) arrows announcing the compass direction of the signal. But you will need two antennas to clearly identify the direction of the signal

I LOVE the idea of automatically tune the detector to maximum radar performance based on GPS location. I assume that lots of data points are required and an intensive database is necessary that includes the data what equipment is used by LEO in each specific region. In the beginning the database could be limited to states and then fine tuned to counties.
Is it doable? I am sure it is, question is how much effort and Engineering capacity will be eaten up to develop and implement and is it worth the effort. I dunno. But you have to admit, it would be a very cool and unique feature!
