I was wondering exactly how dirty the LRD850 ran and how well it would reject another detector. I only have two detectors to test: an old Solo S2 and the LRD850. So, I ran both at various distances from each other. Both ran silently side-by-side and within a distance of 10 feet. But during the power-down cycle on the S2, the Uniden consistently displayed false KA signals. The frequencies varied significantly, but one of them was 34.6, probably too close for comfort to legitimate threats. The S2 was able to false the Uniden from about eight feet away during shut down. I know the S2 is not a particularly good detector, but I have not read anything about it being a significant RF polluter. The 850 did not false the S2 during start-up, shutdown, or while running. On the road, I have not experience many known false signals with the LRD850 from other radar detectors.

Not really a big deal though... My Redline falsed to my RX65 during startup/shutdown from several feet away. Does that mean it ever once caused a real life false to another detector in the almost 10 years it's been on the road? Unlikely.

Thanks. Knowing that this is not uncommon helps. I guess on shutdown frequency drift and other screwy things can happen. I have not had any known false signals from other radar detectors yet.

Funny thing, if I ran two whistlers together, they would always false each other. But my whistler never would false any of my escorts, unless you go through the menu, which is supposed to generate a 35.5 reading (and it does for me). But while booting up my 9500ix last week, it made my whistler false k-band once. It only did it once, but I thought that was really odd. There wasn't anything else around to cause a false.

Wish I could understand the going through the menu false. On start-up or shutdown I could understand frequency drift or some type of harmonic generation. I can't understand what flipping through the menus would change, unless the voltage and/or current drop and create some type of instability.

Whistler actually designs their detectors to do this on purpose. It's a way of testing other radar detectors to make sure they alert to Ka band.

I have 2 LRD950s and had them powered on and sitting next to each other (within 8-10 inches) on a desk in my office last night. Unit #1 caused Unit #2 to randomly false at 35.36 and Unit #2 caused Unit #1 to randomly false at 34.84. It would happen just every so often, and then quit. Didn't last too long. Kinda strange.

That's the same sort of thing that my whistlers would do when run together. Just once every couple minutes, a random Ka alert would pop up. Nothing consistent. That was back before I knew you weren't supposed to run 2 detectors side by side.

I should also mention I tried to get the Uniden to false my RX65, but it never did. Belscort's RDR seems to work pretty well.

:yeahthat:

I haven't been able to get my 9500ix to false to another detector, ever. Except for the whistler menu function, but I don't consider that a false since that is its intended function.

Yeah detectors will definitely make each other false at close range, even good quality detectors. The X70 makes my V1 go off to Ka when it starts up if I leave the V1 on.

Yeah agreed -- startup falsing and close range falsing is fairly common even on good detectors. We are generally more annoyed but leaking detectors if they leak at distances more similar to a car's length or if they constantly cause false alarms.

Is that with the V1's Ka guard on or off?
