Let's create a list of pros and cons for the Uniden LRD950, based on your experiences with the detector. It's a pretty new detector that's gaining lots of interest and lots of people are picking one up now and sharing their experiences here, so we can start compiling what all we learn, both good and bad. :)

Pros:
 • Generally excellent range and performance (Test 1, Test 2)
 • Very quick reaction time: comparable to a Redline, faster than a Max (Test)
 • Includes GPS lockouts and low speed muting
 • Has support for RLC's and Speed Cameras
 • Pretty good at filtering out BSM's
 • K band filter doesn't reduce detection range
 • Downloadable firmware updates available online
 • Compatible with Escort's RJ11 power cables
 • Frequency display
 • Alerts to Laser Ally and Dragoneye Compact
 • Can unmute a signal after you've muted it
 • Priced around $150 here (Edit: Sold out) $200 here (with 10% off forum discount, use coupon code NLWEB10).
 • One of the best in terms of bang for the buck
Cons:
 • K band filter doesn't filter out traffic sensors (no TSR)
 • OLED screen and strength meter can be hard to read in direct sun
 • RLC/speedcam database needs updating (still has yet to be done)
 • Poor customer service
 • Very slow repair turnaround times
 • Silver case reflective in the windshield
 • No bluetooth
 • Only 100 GPS lockouts total
 • Frequency display only goes to 2 digits (ie. 34.71 vs. 34.709)
 • Falses other RD's like a leaky Cobra
 • Prone to falsing from other leaky RD's
 • Not stealth to RDD's (though tougher to detect)
What else would you add?

At night you can only dim the alert display but not the bloody Mute/Dim and Mark buttons. Not good!

All alerts mute under quiet ride set speed. Instead make it band selectable on or off.

Vortex, thanks for the summary. Question: Does the Escort Smartcord mute function work on the Uniden LRD950, or does it only supply power? Please let me know, thanks.

I don't believe it mutes. Would be nice. :)

Good idea Vortex,

I grabbed one from Evine, it will be here Tuesday, I am looking forward to test driving this one, I'll be glad to add my pro's and con's.

So the RJ11 plug from the Escort was not the cause of the 950's death?

Congrats!

Potentially, but I'm not sure that's the culprit. It'd be handy to have someone with a multimeter measure both and compare.

Thanks :)

Ya curious if it was caused by power to the pin that controls the mute on the smartplug, maybe the the 950 isn't meant to have power on that pin from the plug and it caused the issues, purely speculation though.

Mine is also due to be delivered Tuesday. Out of an abundance of caution, I will not use the Escort/Beltronics cord to power the Uniiden.

I can confirm it does not for the live cord.

Mine has been running fine off of the live hard wire for 4 days.

Good to know, your'e 950 can be the benchmark for a Smartcord/Livecord.

I plan on using my V1 power cord that is direct wired already. Any issues should I expect???

Vortex, can you please make some suggestions to me on which settings I should apply to keep the range good, X off and minimal falses??? You seem to have the 950 down tight!

Thanks Vortex for all the time you have put in and then sharing your knowledge with us!!!!

No problem using the hardwire cable from the V1. Works like a charm.
The Uniden is not difficult to set up. Turn off X band (unless there is X band in your state but in most there isn't) and turn K Filter on.
There is no Ka narrow option but sensitivity is good in Ka wide already.
K filter does filter most of the BSM falses but does not work against traffic sensors. If you have those in your area you have no choice but to turn off K band completely.

Yea and that's a big problem most places because they are in most city's.

Just got a LRD850. Filtering of BSMs is very good. Only had two punch through in 120 miles of driving. Cadillac Escalade was one of the two, and it was a strong, persistent signal. The other seemed like the filter was clipping it occasionally. I could not identify the source of the second.

Thanks Hugel!

There is some K band still being used in Phoenix. Will turning the K filter on significantly reduce range and sensitivity?
