Message sent - let's see if they respond - not holding my breath!
You never know. They have been working silently before the release of 950. And probably they still continue to do so

True, and to be honest I am extremely happy with my detector as is. I don't have to deal with traffic sensors and don't really care about RLC but I know others do. I hope they have someone monitoring the forum and listening to user input.

It would be awesome if they had good support. The 950 is 2 steps away from being a big player imo.

I agree with fellow LRD 950 owners the data should be updated Quarterly and Their data and firmware downloaders should be updated by them like escort and beltrronics

If anyone has done a Firmware Update on the LRD850, can you please share the link? Submitted a support request to Uniden, but I don't expect a fast reply. Currently running 1.20.

Guys I want to throw something at you and please don't think that I am trying to be negative here. Many years ago Uniden did make a RD that was not to bad it was average and then they faded away into the night. Now it looks like they have made a couple of good RD's for us to buy and look at. So what if tomorrow they decide to fade away again. I find it hard to support somebody like this. Actually they won't get a dime of my money until they show me that they will be in it for the long haul. Like I said before I am not trying to step on any toes I am just stating facts. Some of you probably think that I should forgive and forget which you are probably right. For some of you that have purchased there RD's I hope that they will keep up-dating there units and stay in there to make the very best RD for all of us.

Is that so much worse than having to deal with a rude lady when you have spent over $300 on a detector? As far as RDs go $180 is a steal for the performance they put out and if it craps out well I didn't lose much. Now if that were my redline it would be a different story but escort has good support.

BTW has uBiden responded to anyone?

Just got the following response from Uniden Support in an email;

I downloaded their current f/w version and it is still 1.35 and NOT 1.37, maybe they did not understand my question :/

Kind of disappointed overall with this email, looks like a phone call may yield better results;

Post Office dropped off my 950 this morning!

Looks like I will be updating to 1.35 as that is the latest available on the website.

Anyone know what is the difference between 1.35 and 1.37?

Wow, 1.22? I think that is the first time I have seen that version of the firmware. I have no idea what the difference is between version 1.35 and1.37 - I wish I knew. You seem to have good luck with getting them to respond to emails, maybe ask? I am still waiting for a response to my questions.

LOL - maybe I should attach a selfie and see if they respond! That's just it though...I really love the detector...it's pretty damn amazing but the customer service is horrid right now. I really don't care at this point as I am not concerned about the RLC database so probably wouldn't update if there was a newer version out there. I do worry if something happens to my detector and I need to get it repaired or replaced though. Uniden needs to get on the ball and put some people in place to deal with customers!

I think that's been what some people have warned about. Uniden does not have good customer service.

Agreed and that's what bothers me. They have this great detector with so much potential and it's not going to go anywhere without customer support. Meh, maybe they will fix that in the future - I have my doubts but you never know.

This is how I see it. Uniden has released some really great detectors. No doubt. Quite honestly, I don't think they really understand how good their detectors are and how much better they could be! Uniden does not build these detectors. They are made by Attowave Co. Ltd in Korea. I do believe these guys know what they are doing.
But Uniden is not invested in their radar detector business. Their customer service folks are just a few ladies who answer the phone but cannot tell you anything different than what you can find on their website. In fact, I don't think they have any "experts" here who could answer any question in a reasonable amount of time.

I am still wondering if they intend to stay in the business or not. The amount of different models indicates that they are serious. Their pricing policy and customer service speak a different language and look more like an exit strategy.

Again, the Unidens are NO Cobras. They are good detectors, unfortunately the company management does not seem to understand this very well and they tarnish their reputation by offering sub-standard customer service.

Yeah, it certainly does feel like the detector business is an after-thought for Uniden.

The updates from uniden are not very forthcoming, when I bought my unit it had 1.35....I emailed their customer support asking when 1.37 was going to be released for download. They provide the same link and it still shows 1.3t. Bear in mind, this is just the FW update, not the RLC update. That last update was in 2014. Their time frame of getting back to customers leaves a lot to be desired in response time, and answering specific questions rather then appling a general answer to specific questions.

Exactly my feeling after reading the email, first thought that came to mind was, she wasn't specific to radar detectors and it was a general response, so she was not familiar with the detectors specifics. she is just the lucky person to have answered my inquiry in the order it was received...

Perusing Atto Wave's website and found this little interesting tidbit;

Attowave has designed very unique microwave antenna for the first time in the world. While other manufacturers use less sensitive cast aluminum antenna, Attowave uses a bi-laminar copper antenna(patented) which dramatically intensifies X, K, Ku and Ka radar signals.
Anyone opened up a new uniden yet?

Looks like the phone call worked out better but time will tell if it pans out.

Called the 800 number and option 2 and Jenna answered, took down my info and said she was calling corporate and would get back to me in a day or so. Now the waiting game begins.

---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:26 PM ----------

Jenna did mention that customers were complaining about all the different links and the broken links, for ex., when you click on the owners manual you get the dreaded broken link. So Uniden is aware of the website issues as far as the radar detectors go, so hopefully they are "working" on a solution to both streamline and refine the customer support experience.

Also can't help but wonder if there is any merit to this:
Attowave uses a bi-laminar copper antenna(patented) which dramatically intensifies X, K, Ku and Ka radar signals.
...And if so, coupled with a Main Antenna Board with an LNA, in theory there would be hella sensitivity, thoughts...

Based on the FCC pictures of the LRD950, it didn't look like they were using anything but an aluminum horn. And this alleged horn design at least 9 years old. They were talking about it on that other forum back in 2006.
