Yesterday I grabbed the detectors currently in my inventory and went out to go make some passes against a nearby speed sign. I didn't have anything in particular that I was trying to find out. It was mostly just to go do some passes and see what I could learn.

One thing that was particularly interesting was seeing how effective various detectors are at alerting to a C/O K band threat once the popular K band filtering options (like TMF2, City Mode, and Auto Mode) are enabled. Some detectors do a great job of nonetheless alerting you before the kill zone while others are much quieter in how much they respond.

There's 5 detectors tested in this run, the Cobra SPX 7800BT, Whistler CR85, Max2, V1, and a final mystery guest. :)

A big thanks to jdong for the Whistler, BRD for the Cobra, and ray for our surprise entrant.

How bad did that cobra leak? :D

Great stuff, good work!
Actually pretty terribly. That was one thing I was really curious about because I've heard people say that the newer ones aren't as bad. I haven't tested it in a separate vehicle yet under real world conditions, but here's a look at the leakage up close and personal.

Fortunately this unit CAN be filtered out with Ka Guard and even Custom Sweeps. It leaks in the high 33.4xx range typically, not in the 33.6xx range, so to be fair, that is somewhat of an improvement. :p

To bad no redline. Lol.
That whistler body looks very similar in shape and size to an escort max or passport.

Good test. It shows a big gap in performance on the lower end units.

Nice job, great narration and video work!

Brought back a few good memories..... I had one of those Trapshooters back around 1986 or so after my Escort was stolen. It actually was pretty decent for its time. Got it for around $100 compared to $250 for the Escort, which was a huge amount of $$$ difference back then and being a college student.

I think these videos would be clearer if you ran them backwards from the Source and back.

Detectors often "park" (spending much more time focusing on that frequency) once they detect it, so the return trip wouldn't necessary demonstrate anything useful. The ability to initially alert is much more indicative of real world scenarios.
