Got it! Don't know why I couldn't find the file. The updates were easy for the non-programmig.
Scanning through the lines I saw the infamous ads. Autcomplete ads...andnoticed radius in thousands of meters. And also notice alerts based on speed of 10. Can we get rid of the ads when stopped? Sometimes they'll flash up on the highway at speed and stop right away.

Thanks for the great tutorial!

I will have to look what I changed, but I run ad free :)

Seems I noticed a pretty substantial performance hit when I tried ad blockers similar to the old days when antivirus programs lugged down the old computers have you found a good one that works without doing that?

The ads only pop up under slow speeds. Not sure if you can change the speeds or the distance that allow the ads to run. Much better than blocking them.

I was pulling up to a stop light before getting on the highway for a navigation assisted drive for a navigation1.2 mile police reporting!

The two WAZE notifications I received today had very good range 0.75 mile warnings on both. One was the Millsboro, DE local LEO running C/0 Ka 34.7, sitting perpendicular to Rt. 113 and the other was an unmarked Delaware State Trooper that was running I/O Ka 34.7 (rear only) on the side of Redden Road.

Much better results today than in previous notifications for the last few months.

Thank you for the thread and instructions; very informative. I did a rollback and adjusted the preferences file. Has anyone tried to make the 'preferences' file 'Read Only' so Waze cannot overwrite the file?

Welcome aboard! That's an interesting idea, but I wonder if it would throw an error?

It worked!

Now to confirm if it actually uses the adjusted settings tomorrow.

Excellent! In the latest (3.8.x) version, the preferences file is now in a location that requires root access to modify, is that correct?

If it works, could you do a revised tutorial with the new version?
It doesnt work. Waze only uses a few properties from the file in the latest version, none of which are alert distances.

My current phone is not rooted, so I was unable to do it on the newest version. Thank you for testing it.
