Re: New Zealand

Does QLD use redflex and is it worth putting the radar detector like Bel Sti Driver on a sideways mount vertical ? or keep horizontal. What about Redline Pro A/Sti R +?
Thanks

GDay Guy's,

Just joined. Awesome forum. Well done to all.
Just finished reading this section on AU / NZ RD frequencies.
I am originally from NSW AU (RD's illegal) but am now in Queenstown NZ (RD's legal) and just purchased a 2015 Escort Redline International with segmentation for my car and bike.
I know there are several posts on NZ and Redlines on the last 7 pages but...

Is the detail supplied on NZ speed scanning frequencies supplied on this thread still current?
Is there a summary for the best Redline K / Ka segmentation and general settings for NZ?
Should I be updating any software / firmware on my newly purchased unit?
Any hints or advise I should run with?

Thanks guy's and sorry if any of the questions are obvious ones.

Welcome to RDF :)

I think its reasonably accurate, although there are less kiwis than aussies on here, so frequent updates can be lacking.

Make sure you read this thread as well ;

https://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=33039

Also quite a few other threads in the AU/NZ regional section regarding redflex cams etc.

Nice choice on the 2015 Intl Redline :)

I wouldn't segment k band (especially not switching k1), as the redflex vans operate in that band

Firmware is not user updateable on the 2015 Intl Redline. If you try using a USA Escort Live cord to update, you run the risk of installing the USA firmware by mistake. Escort have confirmed the Intl model is not compatible with the Escort Live firmware update function

Thanks heaps for the response winterbrew...

So with the redline international in NZ, leave K band 1 2 and 3 on and Ka band 5 and 8 on with 1,2,3,4,6,7,9,10 off?

In N.Z, you just need the K - 1 active. For Ka, I leave on 2, 5, and 8 to be safe.

Champions!

Thanks heaps guy's.

FYI, I called a well known NZ RD retail outlet for settings help and they advised the information was their intellectual property from years of experience and they would adjust my Redline International for around $200.
$200 for 2 minutes work?
I gotta get into that game!

Hi Guy's, last one please.

Settings for the Redline International in NZ for:-

MTRCD (Multiradar CD) on or off?
MTRCT (Multiradar CT) on or off?
STRK (Strelka) on or off?
LSR (Laser) on or off?
RDR (Radar Detector Rejection) on or off?

MTRCD, MTRCT, STRK, RDR all off. As far as I know in the SI, there are no MTRCD or MTRCT units, I believe they are in use somewhere in Australia though. Also, keeping these 4 off, has been shown to increase Ka detection range.

Laser up to you. Hardly used in N.Z, and if you do get a genuine laser alert (I sometimes get falses when I pass newer model European cars), it is mostly a speeding ticket confirmation notice.

FYI the folks asking $200 for doing something which is technically free should be reported to ESCORT IMO.

Also, be weary of I/O (instant on), the powers to be are starting to use this more often. Read the forums, learn about rabbits etc, sorry if I am preaching to the converted, just a FYI.

Thanks heaps for that. Much appreciated...

Yeah I thought $200 was not on. Its like changing a standard Redline into an XR. Small adjustments only that you could do yourself but because they do it you are charged extra.
Thing is cluey people such as on this forum work these things out very quickly and the parties that are found out have their reputation and business's take a solid hit.
Not worth it because word of mouth is so important.

FYI, here's my bike setup.

I think in Australia, everywhere bar Western Australia it is illegal to use a radar detector or laser jammer.
