    Hey all,

I've been pretty pissed off about the suction cup situation and therefore having to re-stick it back up, buy new ones, etc. Lets make a permanent solution. I know lots of people have created their own mounts but I wanted to show off my simple install.

    1. Take a nice roll of 3M VHB tape

    IMAG0264 (Medium).

    2. remove failed, flat suction cups from mount

    IMAG0265 (Medium).

    3. Take the mount. Clean with alcohol and windex. Let dry. Clean windshield as well. Take 3M tape and cut a piece big enough to cover the mount. Then trim accordingly. ( I put this on the RD already just to see what it looks like) See picture

    IMAG0260 (Medium).

    4. Dry mount to where you want the RD. Peel backing off and push hard against the windshield. Then place RD on mount.

Here are my final pics. Nice and clean. Oh yeah, if you are asking if it holds, yes. I've been going through some crappy streets with lots of bumps and it holds VERY well.

Such a simple and sound idea! Hope it holds up in the heat.

Good grief, why so expensive? Mil-grade tape?

Report back if she fails. I tried the same thing with 3M mounting tape and it sagged annoyingly last summer with the Redline attached...but never completely fell off. Decided to rip that down and try a thin coating of chapstick on the suction cups and that worked great. I just looked at the differences between VHB and mounting tape, and looks like your huge roll there is stronger than regular mounting tape so I'm interested to see how it performs through the summer.

I'll def let you know . Today was hot inside the car and I checked the mount. It was still holding strong. I mounted my LIs with that tape last summer and its still hanging there

Cool. That's exactly what I was planning on doing. For a while I was thinking about using the eBay Escort mount bracket, but for the life of me I can't figure out what the difference is between attaching the VHB straight to the Escort mount, or attaching the Escort mount to this bracket first.

Does the RD still bounce like a Jack Russel terrier on crappy roads, or did the permanent install pretty much cure that?

Btw.: I noticed the camera by your windshield. What make/model is it? How do you like it?

Originally I was Considering Go-Pro Hero 2, or Contour Roam/+ . What made you decide on the camera you picked?

Oh, what kind of VHB tape did you use, (model number) and why? I went to the 3M site and there is more than a dozen different kinds to chose from.
