I'd imagine he would've been more successfull if he would've pulled the cars into the garage to "perform the service"

When they went to digital displays I always believed it would be easier to roll back miles if you knew what you were doing.

When they went to digital displays I always believed it would be easier to roll back miles if you knew what you were doing.
The problem with the newer cars is that the mileage is now recorded in multiple places at the same time and even if you re-program the odometer and not change the other places it can be detected. Many people were going to salvage yards and just buying clusters that had lower mileage on them but later were caught because the computer had the actual mileage.

To make it harder companies like CarFax pay dealers and lube stations like 10 to 15 cents per record to record your mileage at your service visit.

Another reason to buy new and drive the car into the ground.

Just put the car up on blocks and put it in reverse and let it run for a few minutes, geesh how much easier can it be?

Sick of here...

LOL reminds me of Ferris Buellers day off!

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone anyone? Bueller?

This makes me happier that my car was new... or was it? lol... He could roll back the odo to anything needed right...? Very scary proposition huh...

When I had my tire changed on the side of the road. I know my mileage was recorded. I hope all service places do this. I know every time I take it to the dealer they do it.

I do my own oil changes though... something they majorly frown upon. I just think I do a better job... I let the oil drip forever... and clean the filter compartment... replace the filter etc... I think the first oil change I had at the dealer (which was free) they didn't even replace the filter... it looked really really bad... they did the change with synthetic though... but that's beyond the point... I change with synthetic too.

So far this change has lasted 6 months and I just bought the filter and oil... still at 35 percent oil life...

The od stills goes forward with the new cars.
Heck the 90 chevy truck our church had did this.
When I would be plowing snow I would glance at the od in reverse and it was still moving forward along with how fast I was backing up.

Until the run into a carfax issue or the computers (like BMWs) get upset and set the tamper flag.

Amazed at the owners of premium brand vehicles that showed up for the rollback, but then being SoCal, they're probably a dime a dozen.
