    Phone Battery Swelling

Not ideal but it’s much much better than typical car temps baking in the sun. Heck it’s better than ambient outside temps for 2/3 of the drive to Vegas!

    Phone Battery Swelling

FWIW a lot of batteries do swell as a safety venting mitigation and this happens most often when exposed to these kinds of hot environments. Not all swollen batteries are guaranteed to be a ticking time bomb in terms of eventually catching fire, only a small portion will do that. Nonetheless I...

    Sent RL360C in for Warranty

I would also turn off segment 9. I agree with others that 35.8xx is Escort's digital platform reacting to certain 77GHz forward adaptive cruise radars. I had the same problem on my Max Ci 360 antenna. Turning off Segment 10 mostly works but sometimes I get a frequency that's in segment 9 too.

    Interview with George Hotz

Heh I knew him too through some mutual friends. Super insanely smart in certain ways, and misinformed (or just doesn't care to inform himself) in other ways. I'm actually kind of surprised he's still working on Comma. Back when I knew him in my college/pre-college days, he was really known for...

Install of - Stinger S8 antenna

I think that’s great, and maybe the dealer network situation has improved. Back when I was partnering with them a few years ago with the Stinger HD / VIP system, they had zero recommendations for a shop on this half of the United States and basically everything I needed done I had to negotiate...

Install of - Stinger S8 antenna

Ooh it seems like they might have rearranged the patches a bit to make it just a small square area to avoid now? I get that on this car it’s hard to abide by these mounting rules, but it’s a big YMMV what happens with these patch antennas if you irregularly obstruct the patches. It reminds me...

    Upgraded to V1G2

Interesting! Yeah that was my impression with getting pulled over both times. The cop spent maybe 2 minutes following me before pulling me over and then by the time he said he was going to cite me, it was maybe 15 seconds in his car and then boom ticket. Seemed like he already had it written up.

Install of - Stinger S8 antenna

They more or less didn't. Their position at the time was basically if you were trying to test its range against the Redline, please do so with the antenna exposed or behind flat plastic. That was always preferred to placing it behind honeycomb plastic or a rounded portion of the bumper. They...

Install of - Stinger S8 antenna

I wonder if the new S8 antenna is still highly sensitive to shaped/curved plastics over it. This was a significant cause of diminished performance with the older HD antennas, and from what I've been told is kind of inherent with the patch array method of increasing sensitivity through multiple...

    Upgraded to V1G2

Well I’ve certainly had a few cases where I felt like I should’ve been pulled over but the cop either flashes me or just ignores it. That’s close to a warning, but I’ve found if they spent the effort to pull me over, they want to write a ticket. It might be a California thing.

    Upgraded to V1G2

I don't really want to speculate for what factors, but in my experience I've literally never gotten let off with a warning. The few times I've been pulled over, no matter how polite I've been (and I've tried both playing the "that was my bad" card as well as the deflect-for-my-day-in-court...

    Upgraded to V1G2

In big-L mode, the V1G2 is actually pretty surprisingly good standalone. The most annoying kinds of falses are the brief intermittent ones, or on Escort style detectors, how quickly passing a door opener triggers their instant-on ramp up and you get a huge blast of K. The V1 ramp-ups have always...

    "J" Alert- 2 in May 2021

Yeah with my V1G1, almost all of the J-outs are 33.8-ish POP false alerts. But on the V1G2, I've also seen a pretty high number of J-outs all over the place, usually on non-police-radar frequencies. I've ended up running my V1G2 with really loose custom sweeps (150-200MHz up and down) and that...

    Squirrel's Stinger Freedom Review

I wonder too. When I spoke to them about the TI 28xx they had in there, their response was basically it wasn’t their first choice but it was what was available. My best guess, after spending 2 years of my life coding on that platform, was that most of the peripherals from ADC to PWM were highly...

    Squirrel's Stinger Freedom Review

Great to see it perform so solid! The Stinger fiber design is just so stealthy and sleek, it was a bummer to see it hit or miss for the Stinger VIP's LAB system. Looks like they took the same concept back to the drawing board with a fresh set of innards and it's worked out well. (The LAB used a...
