Updated List of Mechanical Issues with the new V1G2

I've made mistakes like that before -- usually when trying to implement the whole "If the user powered it down and the power supply bounces, stay off" behavior that people want. It's unfortunately easy to get wrong, and usually you want some sort of failsafe where a long hold of some button...

Updated List of Mechanical Issues with the new V1G2

I also wonder if it’s somehow refusing to boot and then shutting down again, like if saving settings is somehow affecting its ability to boot due to either parsing corrupted settings or altering the flash.

Updated List of Mechanical Issues with the new V1G2

Firmware can definitely cause these kinds of issues, particularly firmware around PMIC interactions and programming under/over voltage thresholds, power on sequencing, and so on. I don’t think we know enough to say one way or the other.

Not Seeing K band usage anywhere in CA Bay Area

Ah interesting — most of the Explorers and Chevy Caprices I’ve seen around Cupertino don’t seem to have any permanently mounted radar but they sure seem to have a random grab bag of equipment. Still no K band but they are one of the more aggressive agencies at speed enforcement in South Bay.

Not Seeing K band usage anywhere in CA Bay Area

I haven’t seen them use K. SCC mostly conducts speed enforcement using motorcycles, and those have Stalker handheld 34.7 and Stalker XLR laser. Their cruisers don’t have any radar mounted but I’ve seen some LTI guns used by them in the past.

Updated List of Mechanical Issues with the new V1G2

Yeah damn.... So mine still seems to be powering up successfully and I'm planning on a 8hr road trip tomorrow so let's see what happens. I feel like mine is overdue to die based off all of these reports. (BTW I totally just made up that estimate as an example figure, I have no real information...

Lidar I Almost Certainly Got LIDARed

CA is weird. It totally depends on what the cops are up to. If they're doing a "super speeder" enforcement campaign, nothing short of 100mph will get you pulled over. If you're doing a zero tolerance campaign, 1mph over might get you pulled over. If they're on the way to a construction zone or...

Lidar I Almost Certainly Got LIDARed

CHP moves around very frequently, usually after each customer they will set up in a slightly different spot. As a result, Waze reports tend to be a bit noisy on California highways. I would say 10% or less of past 60 minute cop reports result in an actual hit..... Taking them seriously I find...

    Radar V1G2 K-Band Off-Axis

Is this just me being me: I am much more fascinated by things I don't understand, especially in this case where I don't even fully grasp the overall strategy. Nitpicking execution is fun and all but the execution part is inherently less cognitively fascinating than trying to answer "what was...

    Radar V1G2 K-Band Off-Axis

That's quite fascinating. I must admit I honestly don't understand how the V1G2's architecture works. The traditional Escorts and their digital platforms make more sense to me these days as a firmware person more on the software side... I dozed my way through more EE classes of my EECS degree...

    Radar V1G2 K-Band Off-Axis

Lack of reflections can be deadly. I had a 35.5 encounter using a Max (original) that was about 3 seconds of warning in a national forest with no guard rails. Only thing around was thick foliage on both sides. I know the Max isn’t great but it typically does a ton better than that on Ka band...

    Redline 360c vs. Spectre III

Thank you, that's more than an adequate explanation and I'll happily take it at face value :)

    Redline 360c vs. Spectre III

Thank you! Very fascinating. 1592600332 Follow up question: Is it practical these days to build a detector that can deal with spread-spectrum transmissions? Or does that require sampling rates we can't easily achieve today?

    Redline 360c vs. Spectre III

@Jon at Radenso Apologies if this is a repeat, but have you placed a Uniden R series under a spectrum analyzer? I've been scratching my head at the platform and I still suspect its functional stealth is likely the result of being smart/evasive with how they sweep (the technique mentioned in...

    V1G2 FW 4.1019

If you can find a Tesla, any Tesla Model S/X with Autopilot 1, and any Tesla with Autopilot 2 (multi-cameras) up to Oct 2017 build dates. I believe the part in Teslas is specifically the Bosch MRR18. The Max360Ci sees sporadic 1 bar alerts at 35.7xx when running 5ft away from the antenna. (All...
