LIDAR Gun Listing

Introduction

LIDAR guns have varied in design over the past 10 years, and manufacturers have made significant changes to improve the device’s target acquisition time, target range, and even utilizing anti-jam software.

Some good examples showing how the manufacturers have changed their new LIDAR guns for 2012 are the Kustom Prolaser and Applied Concepts Stalker series.  With the Kustom Prolaser LIDAR guns, the ProLaser 4 has improved it’s target acquisition capabilities by providing faster target readings through glass, and using a better diode that gave the gun more range.  These are big improvements since many agencies prefer to purchase LIDAR guns that have the ability to allow their personnel to use the LIDAR guns while inside the vehicle.  The Stalker LR made some improvements as well, such as using larger optics and a better CPU.  According to the manufacturer, the new CPU is 5 times faster at target acquisition than the previous model.  Other companies, such as the Digital Ally Laser Ally have tried to combat laser jammers by developing proprietary anti-jamming software.  Early implementation of this software was successful in 2011, however, current laser jammers are now able to defeat this technique and have rendered the gun to be as good as any of the other LIDAR guns.
